Five ‘Star Wars’ Spin-offs That Need To Happen
The beloved and highly anticipated Obi-Wan Kenobi series is coming out soon, fulfilling many fans’ dreams. What other Star Wars series can we dream of next? With so many other Star Wars spin-offs coming out like Ahsoka, new seasons of The Mandalorian, Book of Boba Fett, Visions, and Droids, what else can we want? We may be in danger of becoming oversaturated with Star Wars shows. Until then, let us look at the Star Wars spin-offs that need to happen.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
This is the premiere Star Wars property that fans want to see continued both as a video game and as a film. However, video game adaptations have not had too much success in Hollywood, and Star Wars has yet to be involved in one. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, or KOTOR, is unique in that it takes place thousands of years before the movies, giving creators freedom and flexibility to work with in the world of Star Wars. The video game also has an excellent story and an exceptional twist, that keeps people hooked.

I think KOTOR will be best as a television series on Disney+. Both the first and second KOTOR games clock at roughly a 40-hour playthrough. To maximize the story and scope of the adventure, the saga would need to be shown in a series rather than within the constrictive confines of a feature film.
Darth Bane
The Darth Bane Trilogy by Drew Karpyshyn have become a huge hit among Star Wars fans. The New York Times bestsellers go back to the time before the Skywalker saga, separating itself from any storyline in the films. The novels then detail how a Dark Side Force user came to power, and the circumstances that made him famously create the Rule of Two, a Sith legacy that continues on to the present Star Wars timeline.
Being able to primarily focus on the Dark Side would be a welcomed change for Star Wars storytelling. This series would stand out among typical Star Wars stories that primarily focus on the Jedi as the protagonist. The only other series with focus on the Dark Side thus far is The Acolyte, which does not have a release date as of yet.
Exar Kun And Ulic Qel-Droma
Exar Kun and Ulic Qel-Droma have a great and complex storyline set in the Old Republic era. Their story was first published in the Tales of the Jedi: Knights of the Old Republic comic series in 1993. Exar Kun’s fall to the Dark Side and Ulic Qel-Droma’s dramatic infiltration, corruption, and redemption pack a dramatic punch. While the arc is similar to other Star Wars stories, there are some key dramatic turns that will hook you in. The drama and action surrounding Ulic’s trajectory, his battle against his brother Clay Qel-Droma, and Ulic’s friendship and battle with Nomi Sunrider will be a joy to see on screen.
The Force Unleashed
While this popular video game does not have the in-depth story that many other Star Wars properties have, its change of pace may be just what Disney needs to keep things fresh. Not all Star Wars products need to be the same. Rather than an in-depth storyline with drama and character development, this spin-off could just focus on the action and special effects. After all, the video game shines because of its action and destruction, not its story. It also would not hurt Star Wars’ bottom line to throw out a solely action-based movie to see if it catches on with new fans.
Alderaan
We do not see much of Alderaan in the movies. There are just quick glimpses in Revenge of the Sith when Senator Organa takes baby Leia back to his wife, and in A New Hope when the Death Star blows it up. The picturesque Alderaan is finally brought to life in Star Wars: The Old Republic MMORPG where the missions set on the planet add a level of intrigue that we rarely see. The beautiful planet with lush valleys and mountain vistas is controlled by rival powerful houses, such as the Organas, constantly vying for power and control of the planet. It would be wonderful to see a power struggle on the iconic planet of Alderaan along the political intrigue lines of The Sopranos or Game of Thrones. However, they might have to be toned down a bit to fall in line with Disney’s strict ratings rules.
Star Wars has so many possible spin-offs and outlets for future shows. Star Wars: Fallen Order has taken off with massive popularity and so many other Star Wars shows are coming down the pipeline. The world that George Lucas created has allowed for such creativity. Any story set in this universe will be more entertaining than it would be in another realm. I would even much prefer Star Wars: Pride and Prejudice or CSI: Corellia to the earthly versions. While too much Star Wars and the subsequent burnout may be a problem, clever control of the intellectual property in smart, diverse, and compelling story choices can keep our favorite franchise going with many, many more stories going forward.
