George Lucas Announces His Return To 'Star Wars' Making Standalone Film

Star Wars fans rejoice! For years, fans have begged for George Lucas to return to the series he created. Rumors have often circulated that he would be returning to the series, and he has appeared on set to give guidance on shows like The Mandalorian. Lucas has also gone on record to talk about his original plans for the sequel trilogy, and based on the information available about his plans, it would appear his vision for the sequel trilogy was radically different than what Disney has envisioned. It is also no secret that Disney’s era of Star Wars films did not go over extremely well with fans.

It appears that George Lucas will soon be returning to Star Wars to direct a wholly original Star Wars film. The film will reportedly take place in a part of the Star Wars galaxy fans have not seen before. The story will also borrow ideas from Lucas’ original idea for the sequel trilogy, but the actual place on the timeline has not been confirmed. It is still in the early stages of this project, so there are few details available at the moment. However, the important takeaway is that George Lucas is coming back to Star Wars

Naturally, this has sparked several rumors about the film and the future of the series. It is speculated that fans can expect to see Lucas at this year’s Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim and that he will give a brief synopsis of the plot there. Similar to casting announcements at Comic-Con, fans expect to see the cast appear with Lucas at Star Wars Celebration for a Q&A session. There have also been rumors that George will be returning to Lucasfilm permanently should the film perform well. Needless to say, this could indicate a major change coming to Star Wars and Lucasfilm.

Fans have wanted to see George Lucas return to Star Wars for a long time now. It is no secret that, upon release, the prequel trilogy was met with its fair share of criticism. However, in recent years the prequels have seen a resurgence in popularity. Upon rewatching, many fans have found a lot to love about the prequel trilogy. However, the same can not be said for the sequel trilogy. Disney’s sequel trilogy has been criticized by fans for having a lack of vision and cohesive story. In particular, Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi has become the source of many fans' complaints about the sequel trilogy along with The Force Awakens and The Rise of Skywalker. Even the Star Wars spin-off movies Rogue One and Solo did not fare too well at the box office. It is hard to argue that news of the original creator of Star Wars returning to the series wouldn’t make a few fans excited. It also helps that Lucas has been involved in a small guidance capacity with The Mandalorian, which is an enormous success for Disney+. Those shows also feature Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau, who fans have equally begged to take over Star Wars. With Lucas’s return, it is possible fans could see all three work on a brand new trilogy of Star Wars films.

George Lucas returning to Star Wars is certainly big news, and it could potentially lead to even bigger things. This could be just the beginning. Fans might be able to expect an entirely new Star Wars saga soon. Hopefully, with Lucas back at Lucasfilm, Star Wars will return to the top of the sci-fi genre. It may be fun to speculate, but the important takeaway from this news is that the original Jedi Master is back to craft another Star Wars tale for fans everywhere.
