‘Star Wars The High Republic: Tempest Runner’ Audio Drama To Get Print Release
Chaos and despair spread across the galaxy in the wake of the Nihil storm. Tempest Runner Lourda Dee leads the way as she stays one step ahead of the Jedi Order. Outrunning the Jedi is not an easy task though. After her crew is defeated, Lourna hides in plain sight by disguising herself as just another Nihil raider. However, treating Lourna as just another prisoner was the Jedi's first mistake, as she is forced to repair the very ship her crew damaged.
While a captive, Lourna makes some close connections. On her own, her true identity a secret, separated from her crew and her reputation, Lourna must learn to survive. The only question is whether she will change for the better or become a more significant threat to the Jedi and the galaxy. This plays out in the audio drama The High Republic: Tempest Runner, which is now getting a print version on March 1, 2022.

On August 31, 2021, Random House Audio and Lucasfilm released The High Republic: Tempest Runner audio drama with an entire cast of voice actors. The script was written by Cavan Scott, who has written one previous Star Wars audio drama Dooku: Jedi Lost (2019), which also received a hardcover version about six months later. In addition, Scott has been writing a plethora of Star Wars material over the last few years, including comic books, novels, and audio dramas.
In an interview with the official Star Wars website, Scott expressed his excitement that Tempest Runner is following in the footsteps of Dooku: Jedi and Doctor Aphra by also getting a print release. The Doctor Aphra audio drama was written by Sarah Kuhn and released in July 2020. Its print release dropped in April 2021. So the score is 3-3 when it comes to Star Wars audio dramas going from audio to print, all generally happening within roughly 6 to 9 months of each other. This is a good thing for those folks who prefer print over audio (like me).
With Dooku: Jedi Lost and Doctor Aphra, the hardcovers were taller and narrower than the typical hardcover. It is safe to assume The High Republic: Tempest Runner will be the same size. The atypical book size can be infuriating to book readers. After all, it is all about symmetry on the bookshelf. It is also not like reading a regular novel. The script is very much like reading a screenplay for a movie, with descriptive text to set the scene and instructions for the actor telling them how to say a line of dialogue. They are generally quick reads, with less text per page.
The High Republic: Tempest Runner takes place approximately 230 years before Star Wars: A New Hope, and it is part of Phase I Wave 2 of The High Republic publishing initiative. As far as the reading order for those who may be wondering if you need to read The High Republic books in a particular order, it is generally recommended you read them in order of release. Lourna Dee first appears in Charles Soule's Light of the Jedi, the first novel in The High Republic series, and has since appeared in The High Republic: The Rising Storm (also written by Cavan Scott), The High Republic: Out of the Shadows (by Justina Ireland), The High Republic comic series, and The High Republic: Trail of Shadows comic issue #2.
Lourna Dee has become a central villain in The High Republic and is not someone to be taken lightly as she is more than a match for the Jedi. That's not all. Lourna Dee and the Nihil are in possession of a weapon that can render the Jedi powerless, leaving a clear path for the Nihil's violent conquest.
