10 Things You Didn't Know About Darth Plagueis
Out of the many Dark Lords of the Sith, Plagueis was one who was said to be able to achieve the power to stop death. Although he could not achieve immortality for himself, he managed to manipulate the Force in such a way that he was able to create life. There aren’t many facts in the current canon, yet Legends has a lot of amazing information about Emperor Palpatine’s master, Darth Plagueis the Wise. Here are top 10 things you didn’t know about Darth Plagueis.
10 - His Species
In the Legends book Darth Plagueis by James Luceno, Plaeguis was a Muun, just like those from the Banking Clan. This idea actually came from George Lucas himself. While Plagueis has not appeared in a canonical novel or even comic with his species mentioned, it is safe to say he is still a Muun, given that it came from Lucas. For what it's worth, the 2016 Fantasy Flight Games sourcebook Endless Vigil describes him as a Muun, though one might find RPG sourcebooks to be iffy.

9 - Obsessed with Finding Immortality
During the beginning of the great conflict between the Republic and the Separatists, Plagueis was attacked and left severally wounded. He was left with massive PTSD, and this got him even more obsessed with finding out immortality for himself. At the end of his life, Plagueis was very weak and fell to his own confidence in his apprentice, which led to his death, without ever achieving immortality.
8 - Manipulated Palpatine
When Darth Plaguies took a young Sheev Palpatine as his apprentice, he manipulated him into killing his own family, in order to prove his loyalty toward the Sith lord. Palpatine had no choice but to obey his master, and purge his family, in order to prove his loyalty to his master.
7 - Darth Tenebrous
In order for Plagueis' father to obtain a better job, his mother gave him away to Darth Tenebrous, who took him as his apprentice, and gave him the name of Plagueis. Like Sidious, Plagueis extracted every bit of knowledge from his master, until he no longer had any use for him, and killed him in order to find his own apprentice.
6 - The Tragedy
According to Legends, in his last years of life, Plagueis was very weak, and suffered from massive PTSD from his attack. He needed a breathing apparatus much like Lord Vader, and spent most of his time researching Sith alchemy, in order to find the trace to immortality. One night, Sidious had no more use for his master, so he got him very drunk, and slit his throat with a blade, while the Dark Lord of the Sith slept, continuing the rule of two, and ending the life of Plaeguis the wise.
5 - Knew of Maul
Plagueis watched hologram footage of Maul training with his master Sidious. They both discussed the greatness that Maul had, and Plagueis seemed very impressed by the power of Maul, and his use of a double bladed lightsaber.
4 - Obsession with Force Manipulation
Plagueis was extremely powerful and had so much knowledge of the Force, he was nearly unstoppable. One of his purposes while manipulating midi-chlorians, was to create the most powerful being in the whole galaxy, one strong and powerful enough to destroy the Jedi forever.
3 - Was Disgusted by His Master
Darth Plagueis was very disappointed in his master, as Darth Tenebrous was obsessed with technology, and Force technology. He thought of his master as weak, yet Tenebrous was extremely powerful, and gave Plagueis a really good fight. Yet at the end, he met his demise as Plagueis snapped his neck. While Tenebrous died, he transferred his consciousness to Plagueis, without him knowing it. He transferred his consciousness as he knew the prophecy of the Chosen One, and hoped for one day, to transfer his consciousness to the Chosen One, and rule again.
2 - Tested His Powers At a Very Young Age
At a very early age, Plagueis began testing his powers by persuading a playmate to commit suicide. His mother told him to keep his power a secret, as he and she shared the same ability.
1 - Anakin’s Creator?
Plagueis was able to manipulate the midi-chlorians to create life. Although Plagueis wanted to create the one who would bring and end to the Jedi via his and Sidious' Sith ritual, the Force punished him by creating the Chosen One in response to this ritual. Of course, that is what happened in Legends, and we do not know for sure if this is how things happened in canon.
Darth Plagueis was one of the most mysterious yet interesting characters out of all the different Sith Lords. One can hope that some of his Legends backstory can surface to the new canon, and hopefully we might see him in a future prequel story.
