10 Things You Didn't Know About Boba Fett

Lots of people fell in love with Boba Fett back when they first watched The Empire Strikes Back. (And perhaps earlier when he appeared in the Star Wars Holiday Special). His cool armor, his mysterious presence, and his unknown origins are a few reasons for this. Here are ten things you didn’t know about Boba Fett:

Number 10: Boba Fett vs Cad Bane

One of the great moments that The Clone Wars gave us was a little introduction Boba's kid years as a bounty hunter. Before Disney acquired Lucasfilm, there were many unfinished episodes of the series, before it was canceled. One of those canceled arcs included an amazing stand-off between Boba Fett and Cad Bane, which would have shown Boba putting his armor on for the first time and getting the dent in his helmet from Cad Bane as they shoot at each other.

Number 9: He was considered as a main character for Star Wars: 1313.

Before Lucasfilm belonged to Disney, there were several games planned, as well as a live-action TV series. One of these games that was planned, and cancelled, was Star Wars: 1313. This was supposed to follow Boba Fett into the dark and dangerous parts of the city planet Coruscant, and show us the hostile side of the galaxy. Eventually, the first live-action Star Wars series, The Mandalorian on Disney+, showcased similar elements in terms of bounty hunter life and Boba Fett's involvement.

Number 8: His "original" name was not Boba Fett.

Before the prequels, there was a short story from Tales of the Bounty Hunters titled "The Last One Standing: The Tale of Boba Fett,"  which was made to show the origins of Boba Fett. In the short story, it was revealed that his original name was Jaster Mereel. However, the backstory was overwritten by Attack of the Clones, as we saw that Boba was a clone of bounty hunter Jango Fett. The comic book Jango Fett: Open Seasons later reinterpreted things by having Jaster Mereel be Jango Fett's mentor. Boba Fett would later mention in the novel Legacy of the Force: Bloodlines that he used Jaster Mereel's name as an alias for a while. In The Mandalorian episode "The Tragedy," his name appears in the chain code for Boba Fett's armor.

Number 7: He was a Mandalorian originally.

Before Attack of the Clones, Boba was believed to be a Mandalorian, as he descended from a group of warriors who fought the Jedi. This was later called into question with The Clone Wars character Prime Minister Almec's claim that Jango Fett was not a Mandalorian and merely stole the armor. However, the aforementioned episode of The Mandalorian seemed to make Jango Fett a Mandalorian again, though the season 2 finale "The Rescue" muddied the waters by having Bo-Katan say Boba Fett is not a true Mandalorian. Boba Fett's response is that he never claimed that he was.

Number 6: Boba was supposed to kill Mace Windu.

During the first stages of writing Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, George Lucas wrote a scene where Boba hunted down Mace Windu. This, of course was altered to give Mace’s death to Anakin, which helped with his turning to the dark side.

Number 5: He was married and had a daughter in Legends.

Boba married a female bounty hunter named Sintas Vel, and they had a daughter named Ailyn Vel. However, Boba drifts away from his family. Later, during an assignment, Sintas is captured and placed in carbonite. Years later, they find each other, and Boba made peace with a now traumatic, and blind Sintas, but not before Ailyn is killed by a corrupted Jacen Solo (Han and Leia's son) around the time Boba meets his own granddaughter Mirta Gev.

Number 4: The braids of his armor.

Boba’s armor has always appealed to fans, yet one thing fans may wonder is, what are the braids on his right shoulder? Some believe the braids belong to several Jedi Padawans whom he killed, yet others believe they are made from Wookiee hair. This information has yet to be confirmed.

Number 3: Boba and Vader were intended to be brothers at one point.

One of the ideas George Lucas was working on while he was developing the prequels was the notion that Boba Fett and Anakin Skywalker were brothers. This, of course, was erased, but I would have been interesting to see how this could have played out in the saga.

Number 2: He fought Vader and lived.

In one of the Legends comics, the story "Prey" from Star Wars Tales #11, we see Vader and Boba in a full lightsaber duel, while tracking Han Solo on Tatooine around 5 BBY. Fett uses a saber he had stolen from a fallen Jedi. Vader disarms him easily, but Fett comes out alive. In another Legends comic, Boba Fett: Enemy of the Empire (set 3 BBY), the two fight over a different bounty: the head of Queen Selestrine, who can see the future. Though of course, Fett comes out alive.

Number 1: Boba was supposed to be the main villain of Episode VI.

Before the prequels, Boba’s role in the Skywalker saga was supposed to be larger than what we actually got. George was planning a sequel trilogy to the original Star Wars films, where Boba was believed to have a main confrontation with Luke Skywalker, instead of just "dying" in the first act of the film.
