10 Interesting Facts About Darth Revan

Revan wielding 2 lightsabers

Darth Revan is one of the best characters in Star Wars. He is an absolute fan favorite and has captured fans’ imaginations since his first debut in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR). It is one of the best Star Wars games released and is easily one of the greatest games of all time. It only makes sense that one of the best Star Wars characters is introduced in one of the best Star Wars games. Despite his popularity, there are still a lot of fans who may not be familiar with the character since he has largely been left out of the current canon. These facts might help to pique the interest of anyone who is curious about the famed player character.

Since most of Revan’s appearances are not considered canon, most of the entries on this list will come from the Legends continuity.

10. He Is Technically Canon

Palpatine Returns In Rise Of Skywalker

As stated above, most of Revan’s appearances are not considered canon anymore. However, he is actually referenced in the sequel trilogy, kind of. While his name is never actually said in the movie, the book The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary shows that each of the Sith Eternal legions is named after a famous Sith from the past. One of the groups is named “Revan,” which implies that there was a famous Sith Lord named Revan at some point in canon. That would also technically make Revan canon to some degree.

9. He Almost Appeared In The Clone Wars

Revan Almost Appeared In The Clone Wars

Speaking of not being canon, Revan was almost included in The Clone Wars series. Fans will remember the appearance of Darth Bane at the end of season 6. However, he was originally supposed to appear alongside Darth Revan earlier in the series in the episode “Ghosts of Mortis.” While the scene was ultimately deleted, it is still available to watch on YouTube.

8. He Inspired Darth Bane

Darth Bane

Darth Bane was another famous and powerful Sith that existed long before the Star Wars films. He was credited with creating the Rule of Two which the Sith followed for years after its creation. Much of what Bane did would not have been possible without Revan, though. During his lifetime, Bane learned new Force techniques and abilities from holocrons left by Revan. Bane would look to Revan as a sort of “second master” even though Revan had died long before Bane was even born.

7. Revan Was Responsible For The Desolation of Mandalore

In canon, it is still unclear what caused the dismal atmosphere of Mandalore. Everyone knows it was somehow related to the Mandalorian-Jedi War, but no one really knows the details of the conflict.

In Legends, Revan was one of the Jedi leading the assault on Mandalore during the Mandalorian-Jedi War. In an effort to end the war once and for all, Revan unleashed a superweapon on the planet that destroyed most life and vegetation on Mandalore and even killed hundreds of his own men.

6. No One Knew His Real Name

Shockingly enough, Revan was not his real name. There were very few people in the Star Wars universe that knew Revan’s true identity, and it has yet to be revealed. Players of the game know that he started using the name Revan sometime during the Mandalorian-Jedi War. However, his real name being a mystery is likely just Bioware’s in-game explanation for players being able to name their character in KOTOR.

5. He Could Wield More Than Two Lightsabers

As a humanoid Jedi/Sith, Revan should only be able to wield two lightsabers at most. However, Revan was so adept with the telekinetic part of the Force that he could actually use more than two lightsabers simultaneously. During a battle on Yavin 4, he was able to wield additional lightsabers and weapons effectively in battle. However, he did not do this often as it likely required a tremendous amount of strength and concentration. It was still incredibly impressive though.

4. He Built HK-47

HK-47

KOTOR fans will remember the companion/assassin droid HK-47, the murder-obsessed droid that was originally built by the player character themselves. Revan originally constructed the droid to carry out assassination missions for the Dark Lord. Similar to his creator, however, HK-47 would have his memory wiped prior to the events of the game.

3. His Son Was Not Force-sensitive

After the redemption of Revan and the subsequent defeat of Darth Malak, Revan married the Jedi Bastila Shan. The two would eventually have a son named Vaner. Despite having two of the most powerful Force-wielders as parents, Vaner was not Force-sensitive. Revan also went missing on a mission to the Unknown Regions when he was born so Vaner never got to meet his father. However, that did not stop him from making an impact on the universe. Vaner took up politics and eventually worked his way up to becoming Supreme Chancellor.

2. Revan Was Old

He may not look it, but Revan was very old. However, he did not survive this long naturally. After the events of KOTOR, he was captured by the Sith Lord Vitiate who kept him as a prisoner and lab rat for ages. Revan was not freed until the events of The Old Republic MMO 300 years later. That would put Revan well over 300 years old before he “died.”

1. He Was Able To Withstand And Manipulate Vitiate

Darth Vitiate

During the time Revan was captured by Vitiate, he was tortured and experimented on frequently. Vitiate desperately wanted to control and harness Revan’s power, but Revan was able to resist his efforts again and again (with some help from Meetra Surik’s Force ghost). For 300 years, Revan resisted Vitiate’s power. That alone was incredibly impressive since Vitiate was one of the most powerful Sith to ever exist. However, Revan was also able to use his Force powers to influence some of Vitiate’s decisions. Since Vitiate created a mind-link between them, Revan was able to use this to instill the fear of death into Vitiate. This caused Vitiate to postpone his attack on the Jedi and bought the Jedi more time to try to stop him.
