Who Are The Jedi Masters In 'The Acolyte'

The Acolyte brought us a new perspective to the Star Wars universe. Instead of focusing on the Skywalkers, or Skywalker adjacent, it went 100 years before the prequels, into the High Republic era. Even though there have been plenty of novels, and comics into this era of Star Wars, this is the first time we got to see this era in live action. With this came the addition of some new, and cool, Jedi masters in the universe.

5. Jedi Master Sol

Master Sol is probably one of the most popular characters to come out of The Acolyte. He is relatable to Qui Gon Jinn when it comes to his actions, except for what happened to Brendok. He was never fully able to get over the emotions he had for Osha, which ultimately led to her killing him. He had some of the coolest fight scenes in the show, and in Star Wars in general. He was played by Lee Jung-Jae, who learned English for the role, which is a huge accomplishment.

4. Jedi Master Indara

Master Indara was the most reasonable of the bunch. She, unfortunately, died immediately at the hands of Mae, during the very beginning of the series. We did get to see her in the flashback episodes, however. When Sol informed her about the twins, she was weary about testing them, but went ahead and did it. She could tell that Osha was lying when it came to the answers and confronted her about it. Later, when Sol wanted to take Osha as a Padawan, she was very against it and even went to the Council regarding it, and they said no. She was the most level-headed and reasonable out of the Jedi that was stationed on Brendok. She was played by Carrie Ann Moss who fans will recognize as Trinity from the Matrix series.

3. Jedi Master Kelnacca

There haven’t been many Wookiee Jedi in Star Wars history. Kelnacca joins that very small list, which includes youngling, and eventual Jedi, Gungi, and Burryaga, another Wookiee Jedi in the High Republic era. Unfortunately, we did not get to see much of Kelnacca, as Qimir slayed him. What little we did see of the Jedi, was pretty awesome. He was worthy of the title and was an excellent fighter. He contributed to one of the coolest fight scenes in the series. He was played by Joonas Suotamo, who took up the mantle of Chewbacca in Solo, and the sequel films.

2. Jedi Master Torbin

We mainly saw Torbin as a Padawan to Master Indara. He did eventually achieve the rank of Master but then went into a permanent meditation until he willingly drank the poison Mae gave him. As a Padawan, he was not as strong as the Jedi Master’s around him, and couldn’t block his mind from Mother Aniseya. He also was very reckless and decided to infiltrate the compound after realizing the vergence they were looking for was the twins. Master Sol follows him, and if you watch the show, you know what happens next. He was played by Dean-Charles Chapman. Fans will recognize him as Tommen Baratheon in Game Of Thrones.

1. Jedi Master Vernestra Rwoh

Vernestra is the only character in the show that fans knew of beforehand. She has been in multiple of the High Republic books. In the show, she took on a leadership role and was essentially in charge of the team of Jedi that went to Brendok. She has one of the coolest lightsabers in all of Star Wars – a lightsaber whip. I just wish we got to see it in action more. She also has an unaware history, which most likely includes Qimir. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to investigate this on TV, but hopefully, more of her story will continue in the books. She was played by Rebecca Henderson and is married to The Acolyte creator, Leslye Headland.

The Acolyte gave fans a new story and new and interesting characters. I looked forward to seeing them every week, and finding out what happened next in the show. The Jedi Masters we were introduced to were some of the most interesting characters in the show, and I wish we learned more about them. Hopefully, some of their stories will continue in another form.
