Which Addams Has Been The Kookiest, Spookiest, And/Or Ookiest?

The Addams family have been gracing our screens since 1964 when The Addams Family TV series first premiered on ABC. Over the last almost six decades we have seen multiple live-action and animated reimaginings of the beloved family. Since the release of Netflix’s Wednesday and the rave reviews of Jenna Ortega and her portrayal of the titular character, I couldn’t help but wonder what my perfect Addams Family cast would look like if I could pull from all iterations. So, I went down the rabbit hole of Addams Family movies and TV shows to build my dream Addams Family cast! For this article, I stuck to the main 5 members of the family.

5. Morticia: Anjelica Houston The Addams Family (1991)

There have been some truly spectacular portrayals of the Morticia Addams over the years, but none have touched Anjelica Houston’s outstanding performance. When most fans think of the character, Anjelica Houston’s version is what pops into their heads. Her performance was hauntingly beautiful in a way that no other actress has been able to replicate.

4. Gomez: Raul Julia The Addams Family (1991)

Raul Julia will always be Gomez Addams in the eyes of most fans. He truly embodied the character in a way that no one has been able to do. When watching his performance, it is almost like you are watching the actor simply be himself on screen because he so perfectly fits the role.

3. Wednesday: Jenna Ortega Wednesday (2022)

When most people think of Wednesday Addams, they think of Christina Ricci’s outstanding performance in the 90s. Now, if I had made this cast back in October she would have been my choice, but since the premiere of Wednesday on Netflix, I cannot think of anyone other than Jenna Ortega. Her portrayal of the timeless character is truly outstanding, and it tops all others.

2. Pugsley: Finn Wolfhard The Addams Family (2019)

Pugsley is a character that I feel gets the short end of the straw in most of the Addams Family content. He plays a side character to the rest of the family, but 2019’s Addams Family made Pugsley the star in which Finn Wolfhard’s rendition was outstanding. He brought complexity and heart to the character which is something that no actor has done previously.

1. Uncle Fester: Christopher Lloyd The Addams Family (1991)

Christopher Lloyd and Uncle Fester are like pumpkin spice and coffee, they are a perfect match. There have been so many great portrayals of Uncle Fester, especially Nick Kroll’s in the 2019 film, but Christopher Lloyd’s portrayal will always hold a special place in my heart. The actor really brought the character to life and made the dynamic and complex character that other actors have strived to achieve in the years since the original film's release.
