Top 5 Anime Side Characters
It is no secret that there has been a massive boom in the amount of anime content that has become available in the US. Thanks to streaming services like Crunchyroll and Netflix we have access to hundreds of past animes and new series! While anime's main characters are amazing, anyone who has seen even one episode of an anime series would agree that it is the side characters that really make the show. Whether they are there for comedic relief or to add drama to a love story they make sure that our main characters are never bored. Let’s take a look at five of the best anime side characters ever!
5. Chika Fujiwara – 'Kaguya-sama: Love Is War'
Few side characters are more hilarious than this one! Not only does she bring comedic relief to the series, but she also brings in a lot of confusion. On more than one occasion she will misunderstand a situation or overheard conversation and create new drama for the characters. She also purposefully throws wrenches into Kaguya’s plans simply to entertain herself. If you have seen the “weiner” episode then you know exactly what I mean!
Kaguya-sama: Love is War is available to stream on Crunchyroll.

4. Osana Najimi – 'Komi Can’t Communicate'
Najimi is a side character that could easily have their show! They have their own storylines that are woven into the main character’s storylines and it helps to keep the show from ever feeling monotonous. Najimi is also responsible for most of the interactions between the main characters because they are always trying to find new ways to help Komi and Tadano. While they do create some of the drama in the series they mainly act as a catalyst for the main characters and as comedic relief.
Komi Can’t Communicate is available to stream on Netflix.
3. Power – 'Chainsaw Man'
I wasn’t sure if I should even include Power on this list because she seems like a main character to me, but according to the show’s creators, she is considered a side character. I love Power and as much as I love Denji, I don’t think the show would be nearly as good without her. She not only brings humor to the show she also brings an amazing dynamic to the show. She is not fully trustworthy which keeps tension at an all-time high and she is one of the most powerful characters on the show. With all of the strength she possesses though, she is also sweet and loving which creates great juxtaposition with the gore and violence in the show.
Chainsaw Man is available to stream on Hulu and Crunchyroll
2. Kenichirou Ryuuzaki “Kencho” – 'Zom 100: Bucket List Of The Dead'
Zom 100 is one of the newest anime series on this list so I wouldn’t be surprised if most anime fans don’t know who this character is yet. Kencho is the best friend of the main character Akira and when the zombie apocalypse breaks out in Japan he is the first person that Akira wants to find. After he is saved from a hilarious situation he and Akira embark on a journey that starts hilarious but blossoms into something heartwarming. Kencho is the backbone of the series because he makes the perfect partner for Akira as they attempt to survive. He is absolutely hysterical and brings a balance to the show that would be lacking without him.
Zom 100 is available to stream on Crunchyroll.
1. Senshi – 'Delicious In Dungeons'
I’m not sure if anyone has discovered this show yet, but if you haven’t then you need to run to check out! There are so many amazing characters in this show, but my favorite has to be Senshi. He is a dwarf warrior who lives in the dungeon and helps to take care of it while learning how to cook and eat the monsters and planets that also reside there. When he meets the main character and his traveling companions the show immediately gets better. Senshi brings a warmth to the show that makes you feel like you are watching The Lord of the Rings on a rainy day.
Delicious in Dungeons is available to stream on Netflix.
