The Best Moments in 'Return Of The Jedi'

When it comes to Star Wars, there are many strong opinions as to what is the best movie out of the three trilogies. Everyone has their favorite, and it might be different from what is popular. For instance, most fans put Empire Strikes Back as their favorite from the original trilogy.

I think however that Return Of The Jedi is the best one. It has a happy ending, something that doesn’t happen in most Star Wars films. It also has some iconic moments, so let's look back at some of the best from the movie.

5. Leia Saving Han

Fans know that at the end of Empire Strikes Back Han Solo was frozen into carbonite. He was then used as a decoration piece in Jabba’s Palace. At the beginning of the movie, a mysterious Boushh bounty hunter appears before Jabba with Chewbacca. It turns out, this bounty hunter was Leia Organa and was here to save Han. She successfully melts the carbonite and frees Han. He is not himself, however, and can’t see for a bit, which is thanks to being frozen for all that time. The two have a cute reunion until they are unfortunately caught by Jabba the Hutt.

4.) The Rancor Fight

After Leia is caught, and Han is thrown in a cell with Chewbacca, Luke comes after them. He talks with Jabba and tries to reason with him to no avail.

Jabba then opens up a trapdoor under Luke, who falls right into the Rancor pit. Things don’t look good for our Jedi. Luke however is smart and uses what he knows to fight the Rancor. Eventually, he sees an opening goes through the door on the opposite side of the pit, and closes it down on the Rancor, effectively killing him.

3.) The Sarlacc Pit

Once Jabba has our Rebels in his possession, he has no choice but to dispose of them. What better way to dispose of them, than the local Sarlacc pit? They are all taken on a barge to the terrifying creature pit below. Luke is slated to go first and jumps off the barge. However, he didn’t fall in, as he held the plank coming off the barge, and with the help of server R2-D2, he got his lightsaber back. A fight breaks out between our heroes and Jabba’s crew. Bounty hunter Boba Fett is not lucky when he goes after Han and Lando and gets swallowed up by the Sarlacc.  Leia, after being taken by Jabba and made his slave, successfully chokes him, ending him once and for all. The heroes manage to get off the barge, and far away from the Sarlacc pit.

2.) Luke and Darth Vader’s Rematch

To help the Rebels on Endor, Luke surrenders to Vader and Palpatine. He is brought to the second Death Star, where he comes face to face with the Emporer. Luke won’t give into the Emporere’s manipulation, and eventually Vader and Luke fight once again. Luke refuses to strike down Darth Vader, as that is what Palpatine would want.

He faces the consequences and gets electrocuted multiple times by the Emporer until something clicks in Vader, and he decides to save his son. The two almost escape, until Vader says he cannot keep going. Luke removes his helmet and looks upon his father for the last time.

1.) Battle of Endor/Victory Celebration

The Battle of Endor was one of the most important battles in Star Wars. It was their only chance to go up against the Empire once and for all. It all came down to the forest moon of Endor after the Rebels found out about the second Death Star that was being built near the moon. With the help of the native Ewoks, the Rebels were able to blow up the second Death Star, and finally destroy the Empire for good. And what comes after a good defeat? A celebration of course! Victory Celebration, once known as Yub Nub, is the final part of Return Of The Jedi. We see the Rebels celebrating on Endor, but also citizens all over the galaxy. There is finally peace in the galaxy, and everyone finally has a reason to celebrate.

Return Of The Jedi has some of the most iconic, and happiest moments, of the original trilogy. As much as some fans don’t like them, the Ewoks make this movie. Without them, the Rebels would never have succeeded. Happy endings are always a great way to end something, and Return Of The Jedi did just that, even if it just lasted for a short time.
