Some Of The Easter Eggs In Season 3 Of 'The Legend Of Vox Machina'
The Legend Of Vox Machina season 3 is the newest season of Critical Role’s first campaign. It was much more emotional than the previous two seasons, and even ended on a happy note. Since the show was renewed for season 4, fans familiar with the campaign know that the happiness won't last long. In the season, there have been a few easter eggs spread throughout, relating to other campaigns. So let’s take a look at these easter eggs we notice this season.
7. Chetney’s Wooden House
Chetney Pock o’ Pea is the most famous woodworker in Exandria. He is a major player in their third campaign and is hundreds of years old, so it would make sense we would see some of his creations in the series. In the background of one of the first episodes, you can see the wooden house on a shelf that Grog looks at. It has Chetney’s signature and everything.

6. “One Can Certainly Try”
Fans of Critical Role know that Dungeon Master Matt Mercer has many iconic phrases. One of these is “You can certainly try”. He uses it when one of the players may want to do something that might not work that well. Percy utters a variation of the phrase- “one can certainly try” in one of the episodes, a homage to the famous quote by Matt Mercer.
5. Animated Matt Mercer
One of the fun things to do while watching any season of The Legend Of Vox Machina is spotting the animated Matt Mercer’s in the background. There’s always at least one, and each one is different. One of the most prominent of these is when Scanlan is stopped by someone selling spice, the drug of choice in Exandria. The spice pusher resembles that of Critical Role Dungeon Master, Matt Mercer.
4. Ruby Of The Sea Song
Speaking of Matt Mercer, he shows off his singing chops during the second episode. Scanlan is off visiting his daughter Kailey, and in one of the taverns, there is a traveling band, led by Dr. Dranzel. The singer is played by Matt Mercer, who sings a lovely rendition of the Ruby of the Sea song. This qualifies as an easter egg, as the Ruby of the Sea, is Jester’s Lavorre’s mother, another character in campaign 2. It’s also one of the most iconic songs from the show.
3. Zerxus Illerez
Not only does Critical Role have three main campaigns, but they also have a bunch of side campaigns, that tend to be smaller in length, but they always expand the world of Exandria. One of these was the Calamity campaign. This season told the story of Calamity in some beautiful stained glass. One of the characters, in Calamity, was Zerxus Illerez. J’Mon Sa Ord reveals to Vox Machina, that The Plate Of The Dawnmatry is in the hands of the doomed First Knight Of Avalir. The group pays him a visit, where Pike is forced to “play” a game to acquire the vestige. This was a big change from the campaign, and it was cool to see one of the Calamity characters come to life.
2. It’s A Family Affair
During the second episode, Grog encounters two children outside of Shubad’s Sensational Sundries in the streets of Ank’Harel. This encounter is special because one of the children is voiced by Ronin Willingham, the son of Laura Bailey and Travis Willingham.
1. It’s High Noon
Percy speaks another Mercer-ism in the first episode. During Vox Machina’s journey to Ank’Harel, Percy says the phrase “high noon”, something Overwatch fans will recognize. It’s what Matt Mercer’s character, McCree, would say in the game.
These are just some of the easter eggs present in season 3. Of course, many more aren’t listed here, but these are some of the best, and most obvious ones we can see in the season. It’s always fun to notice the easter eggs they decide to put in the show.
