Rick and Morty has been a fan favorite since its 2013 premiere on Adult Swim. With Rick Sanchez always pushing the boundaries of reality and what is allowed to be put on TV, the show has kept fans coming back for more, especially after leaving fans with a massive cliffhanger at the end of season five.

While the creators are getting fans ready for the show’s sixth season heading to our screens this Sunday with something they call Wormaggedon”, we decided to compile a list of 5 shows to watch if you love Rick and Morty!

5. Bojack Horseman (2014-2020)

Bojack Horseman is almost identical to Rick and Morty in many ways. Bojack, like Rick, has a substance abuse problem and uses humor to counteract his overwhelming sadness daily. Rather than focusing on sci-fi hijinks, this show looks at Hollywood through the lens of a cynical has-been star and what his life is like when he is no longer relevant to the industry. Like Rick, his sadness does not stop him from going on all kinds of outrageous adventures.

This show is available on Netflix.

4. Tuca And Bertie (2019-Present)

Tuca and Bertie was created by Lisa Hanawalt who was one of the producers of Bojack Horseman. The show is more similar to season one of Rick and Morty when there was more nonsensical animation, humor, and stories. Tuca brings in most of the Rick Sanchez-style of humor while Bertie fills more of a Morty role. The show was created by a talented group of women and focuses on issues that women face on a daily basis.

Season one of this show is available on Netflix and seasons two and three are available on HBO Max.

3. Futurama (1999-2013)

Futurama was created by Matt Groening, creator of the Simpsons, and has been a favorite of many fans for decades. With the Futurama reboot arriving on Hulu next year, it is the perfect time to remember why this show was so great! Similarly to Rick and Morty, this show is full of sci-fi action and more than a few innuendos. Rather than the typical dysfunctional family, Futurama focuses on the dysfunction within the family you choose rather than the one you are given.

This show is available on Hulu.

2. Close Enough (2020-2022)

Close Enough was an HBO Max Original series created by JG Quintel, the creator of Cartoon Network’s Regular Show. The show focused on a young married couple, their young daughter, and their divorced roommates. The show was full of humor similar to the style of Rick and Morty but had more lessons that could be learned. The family, while dysfunctional, had more issues outside of their home than within it. Unfortunately, the show was canceled by HBO Max earlier this year.

This show is available to rent on Amazon Prime Video.

1. Solar Opposites (2020-Present)

Solar Opposites was created by Justin Roiland, co-creator, and voice of Rick and Morty. The show follows a dysfunctional family, similar to the Sanchez-Smith family, but the members of this family are aliens and their pupa who have come to terraform earth after their planet was destroyed. They live “everyday” lives stuck in American suburbia. The show is almost a clone of Rick and Morty in story structure and humor. Solar Opposites also has a fantastic story within a story that focuses on a wall that the two alien children, Jesse and Yumyulack, built and have been storing humans in.

This show is available on Hulu.

Rick and Morty Season Six will premiere on Adult Swim Sunday, September 6, at 11 p.m. ET
