7 Things You Didn’t Know About Princess Leia

There’s a lot to know about Princess Leia Organa. Not only was she the daughter of the Queen of Naboo and the Jedi’s foretold Chosen One, but thanks to the canonical detail available in works like Star Wars Legends, there is a lot more to her than one may glean from the original trilogy. Here are 7 lesser-known facts about one of the galaxy’s most well-known figures and most accomplished rebels, Princess Leia:

7. In Legends, Anakin Begged Leia For Her Forgiveness Over What He Had Done As Darth Vader.

After dying as Darth Vader and being reborn as Anakin Skywalker (as a Force ghost), he appeared to Leia. After learning his identity, she was shocked to learn that such a monster as Sith Lord Vader could be her father and is furious to learn who she had been fighting against to bring peace to the galaxy. Although Anakin tried to explain his actions, she could not forgive him, as the wounds were still fresh. Still, she managed to make her peace with it over time.

6. Leia Actually Had 3 Children, And None Of Them Were Originally Named “Ben.”

In Legends, after her marriage to Han Solo, Leia gave birth to 3 children: twins Jacen and Jaina and a younger son named Anakin. They were all trained as Jedi under the tutelage of Luke Skywalker. At some point, however, Jacen Solo turned to the dark side of the Force and became Darth Caedus, betraying his family.

5. She Was Next In Line To The Throne Of Alderaan.

While she was a Senator and a General, she was most famously known as a princess. This would have led her to become the new queen if Alderaan hadn’t been destroyed. Following in her birth mother’s footsteps, she instead became a pivotal leader within the Rebel Alliance as well as the Resistance. She also became a Senator in the New Republic.

4. She Became A Rebel At A Very Young Age.

Princess Leia began her streak of rebellion at the age of 9 years old. It wasn’t against an empire, but rather, against her adoptive parents and the responsibilities of being a royal. She ran away from the palace and hid in the woods for 7 days straight before finally being found by the royal guards. This was the beginning of what turned out to be a successful career in causing disruption and mayhem to the evils of the galaxy.

3. She Was A Skilled Martial Artist.

At the age of 16, she began to learn martial arts in order to defend herself, she adored the practice and, coupled with her then-unknown powers in the Force, became a truly formidable combatant. She put this into practice against a stormtrooper on Nothoiin by tearing the blaster from his hands and using it to knock them out.

2. She Created The Resistance.

In the years following the defeat of the Galactic Empire, she took charge as a senator in the New Republic. When the rise of the First Order from the ashes of the Empire brought a new threat to the galaxy, Leia managed to form a resistance to counter this new threat in a similar way to the Rebel Alliance years earlier. Managing to group together a band of ragtag misfits who devoted themselves to bringing down the First Order and ultimately succeeded.

1. She Was Known Throughout The Galaxy As “Huttslayer.”

After killing Jabba the Hutt in Return of the Jedi, the news of her victory traveled fast. She earned the name “Huttslayer” after killing one of the most notorious crime lords known to the galaxy. This title was something that held much weight throughout the galaxy and gave Leia a fierce reputation amongst many lowlifes and criminals, who now saw her as a highly dangerous individual.
