‘Disney Dreamlight Valley: A Rift In Time’ Review
A Rift In Time is the first paid expansion for Disney Dreamlight Valley. While the game has had many different free updates, this is the first paid one that adds a whole new world, called Eternity Isle, to the already expansive map.
Gameplay
You play the same as you do with the base game. You do however get a new item to use around the map, an hourglass that can change time. This comes in handy with the new story. Mining, fishing, and farming all remain the same, with some new materials you can find. The DLC also introduces multiplayer, where you can have friends visit your island, similar to Animal Crossing. You can also move villagers and their homes, so if someone like Vanellope annoys you, or Maui keeps getting in your way, you’ll be able to move them to the new area, where they won’t bother you as much.

Graphics
The graphics are nothing revolutionary, and like the base game, can be somewhat jarring. For instance, Belle’s eyes sometimes will be uncanny valley. The character's animation does look a tad different from that of the animated movies they are in.
Story
Villians always think they know best when in reality they don’t. Take Jafar for example, he acquired some magic that backfired and left Eternity Isle lost in time. As the player, you are tasked with fixing the rifts in time while also stopping Jafar from stealing the Spark of Imagination, that holds all of Dreamlight Valley together.
Music And Sound
The music is great, just like the base game. Anytime you interact with a character or have them follow you, an iteration of their song plays. This is the same with the DLC. The new characters in the DLC are Jafar, Rapunzel, and Gaston. When you interact with them, you get to hear an iteration of a song from their movie, for example, when you meet Rapunzel, you hear “I See The Light” from Tangled. It’s one of my favorite features of the game.
Pros And Cons
The DLC adds a lot to the game. It’s a great addition to a game that has been out for a bit now, especially if you’ve finished the main quests. The DLC, like the base game, can be a bit repetitive at times, as the quest givers may need you to collect various items around the map, which can become time-consuming and boring. Some areas need unlocking, with mist, that are difficult to unlock at the beginning, as each one requires anywhere from 4,000-10,000 mist. This can also be annoying when you need to unlock it for a quest but don’t have enough. On the flip side, however, mist is quite easy to come by, and you can get it from doing various tasks, or getting rid of the splinters of time on Eternity Isle.
Verdict
A Rift In Time is a great DLC and adds a new layer to the game. It further expands the game, and is entirely optional, which means you won’t miss anything major by not playing it. It’s also only $30 which is a great price, considering how much it gives you. For anyone a fan of the base game, this DLC is a must-have to add to the expansive story and map of Dreamlight Valley.
