Top 7 'Critical Role' Player Characters

Critical Role

Critical Role is one of my all-time favorite shows. It’s also what got me interested in Dungeons & Dragons. The cast is loveable, the stories are always good, and the characters are some of the best. We are currently in the midst of the third campaign, and things are ramping up for Bells Hells. With three campaigns, however, comes a slew of characters throughout the nine years the cast has been doing this. Of course, everyone has their favorites, and while it can be hard to choose, I am narrowing it down to just seven.

7. Dorian Storm

Robbie Daymond has been such a great addition to the main campaign of Critical Role. Dorian brings a much different perspective to the group. He supports the Gods of Exandria in their endeavors and doesn’t think they should die. Robbie has been able to integrate himself into the cast very well, and I hope he stays for the remainder of the campaign.

6. Grog Strongjaw

Grog is such a loveable doofus; I don’t know how you couldn’t include him on this list. He’s the muscle of Vox Machina, and while he may not be the smartest, he is one of the nicest people in the group and cares deeply for his friends.

5. Keyleth Of The Air Ashari

Finally, a character from campaign 1. Keyleth is a druid who is on a journey to complete are aramente. She joins Vox Machina and is an essential part of the team. She’s not always the best decision-maker in the group, even when it comes to spells, but she has a huge heart and is such a loveable character.

4. Fjord Stone

Okay, there are a lot of characters from campaign two on this list, and for good reason. It’s the campaign I started with, and it's how I fell in love with Critical Role. Anyway, Fjord is a great character who has an interesting backstory. As the story goes on, he becomes the de facto leader of the group. It was great to see Travis Willingham play a much more serious and intelligent character, which was vastly different from Grog in campaign 1.

3. Jester Lavorre

Another character from campaign 2 is Jester Lavorre. She is a pretty blue tiefling who is quite chaotic. She is also a cleric but of the trickster domain. She follows the God, known as the Traveler, but whose real name is Artagan. She cares deeply for her friends and has some of the best moments of the campaign, blueberry cupcake moment anyone?

2. Chetney Pock O’Pea

All three of Travis’s characters have been on this list, and for good reason. He plays some of the best characters in Critical Role, and all three of them have been some of my favorites. Chetney is my favorite from the current campaign. He’s a couple hundred years old and turns into a werewolf. He is also an excellent woodworker. Count me in as a C-Popper for life!

1. Caduceus Clay

Caduceus Clay didn’t appear in campaign two until about 40 episodes in. He was Taliesin Jaffe’s replacement after his original character, Mollymauk Tealeaf, died at the hands of Lorenzo, who was the leader of the Iron Shepherds. Caduceus was a grave cleric and came in handy when it came to healing the group. He also was the voice of reason most of the time and is my favorite CR character. He’s so calming and someone that the Mighty Nein needed so badly.

There are so many great characters in Critical Role that this time around, I focused on player characters. All of the characters in their campaigns have been great, but the ones named in this list are my personal favorites for various reasons.
