Who Is Varra, AKA Priscilla Fury, In Marvel's 'Secret Invasion'

Nick Fury fans found out about his “other” life at the end of Episode Two of Secret Invasion, which aired on June 28 on Disney +. At the end of the episode, Nick came home from a long day of trying to figure out a war between the humans and the Skrulls, who are being scientifically enhanced, being blamed for a bombing and a death, and met up with his wife, Priscilla. Wait - who is this?
Priscilla Fury is an original comic book character who has made the crossover to the small screen. She is alternately known as Varra, and she is a Skrull. In the comics, she is part of the Skrull-Kree hybrids known as the “Knights of the Infinite”, fighting the extra-dimensional sorcerer Moridun. While the character of Moridun hasn’t made the jump to TV with her yet, Priscilla/Varra is now helping her husband hold off the Skrull Invasion. It has come out in the third episode, titled “Betrayed” that aired July 5, that she and Nick have a history that goes back decades, with her becoming one of his contacts as a Skrull refugee and, later, love interest and wife.

In the comics, Nick Fury also has an ex-wife who left him because of his womanizing; perhaps Varra was on the list of ladies? In real life, Samuel L. Jackson and Charlayne Woodard, the actress portraying Priscilla, do have a decades-long history with each other, having worked together for many years. Jackson explains, “We've known each other for quite a long time. She's an amazing actor. When they cast her, I was very happy to know that she's very, very good friends with my wife, so she didn't have to worry about that whole set romance thing,” he chuckles.

But, with his prolonged absence in the Blip, and his time on the S.A.B.E.R. station, it isn’t all wedded bliss with Nick’s return to Priscilla. She tells him, "I became a widow in your absence. I wept on your pillow every night. I grieved for you. And just when I thought I had gotten past the heartbreak, you came back in the Blip." And then Nick left her again for the S.A.B.E.R. station. The first time, Priscilla could understand, but the second time?
"I thought we were going to undo all the pain together. Go back to the way we were, but no, you just up and vanished again. Only this time it was voluntary. So if you're interested in who I became in your second absence, I became me. The me I was before you."
So, along with the imminent Skrull invasion, Nick Fury may face an even bigger threat: coming to a place of trust with a woman scorned. Good luck! As Samuel L. Jackson puts it, this is a “Skrullmance”!
