What Is The Eye In 'Andor'?

Cassian Andor in disguise as Imperial guard

We have reached the halfway point of the Disney+ series Andor, and things are picking up. After a relatively slower-paced start, Episode 6 brought in a heist. Through many twists and turns, Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) found himself on the planet Aldhani as part of the Rebel Alliance back in Episode 4. Aldhani is an entirely new planet to the Star Wars universe and is one filled with natural beauty. Unfortunately, it is under the control of the Empire. There are TIE fighters patrolling the skies, which makes a heist difficult. That is until Lieutenant Gorn (Sule Rimi) mentions the Eye of Aldhani.

The Eye of Aldhani is a meteor shower that appeared like the eye of the universe to the natives of Aldhani. It is not quite a meteor shower, however. As Nemik (Alex Lawther) notes, it is a “recurrent band of crystallized noctilucent micro densities.” The revered celestial phenomenon occurs once every 3 years. While it used to be a huge almost spiritual gathering, fewer people are making their pilgrimage to see it under Imperial occupation.

The heist relies on using the Eye as a distraction, and it goes fairly smoothly by Star Wars standards. The Aldhani natives and Imperials’ hype and anticipation for the display further draw us into the event. With all the excitement surrounding the plot, the brilliant visuals brought to life by the VFX team seemed to be the most talked about part of the episode.

After Aldhani, Cassian seems to have made some progress on his journey to becoming who we see in Rogue One. We are looking forward to seeing what missions the story will take us to next. Andor has picked up some momentum, and we are looking forward to the remaining half of the season to keep things going.
