What Is Stellan Skarsgård’s Role In ‘Andor’
**WARNING: Spoilers For Andor Episodes 1-4**
The newest Star Wars series has been all fans can talk about since its three-episode premiere last week on Disney+. Andor is set five years prior to the events of Rogue One and shows how Cassian Andor went from a thief on the streets of Ferrix to a pivotal member of the team that stole the plans for the Death Star. Since the show's announcement, fans have been given trailers, clips, and photos showing the characters in the world of Andor. One question that many fans have had is “Who is Stellan Skarsgård playing?” He has been present in the trailers, poster, and one of the clips. However, he was not listed on the cast listing, leaving fans to wonder what character he would play. Thanks to Episode 4, which was released this past Wednesday, we finally have some answers!
Even though the actor made his Star Wars debut in Episode 2 of the premiere, fans were kept in the dark about what his exact role was until Episode 4. Stellan Skarsgård has been revealed to be playing the character of Luthen Rael, and while we know his name, his true role is still shrouded in mystery.
RELATED:
In Episode 3, Luthen is revealed to be the “buyer” that Cassian’s friend Bix has been secretly working with, and he has been keeping tabs on Cassian and seems to know more about him than anyone else. After aiding Cassian’s escape from Ferrix, Luthen delivers him to a group planning to infiltrate an Imperial armory whose leader seems to follow every order Luthen gives.
Back on his ship, we see Luthen dressing in expensive clothing and jewelry, donning a grey curly wig, and practicing his mannerisms. The next time we see him, he is meeting Mon Mothma under the guise of a store owner on Coruscant that specializes in rare artifacts. During their meeting, it is implied that she needs his permission to add someone to their group thus making it appears as though he may be a leader of the Rebellion.
It is clear that Luthen Rael plays a large part in the orchestration of the Rebellion and its circle of members. However, the importance of this role to the series and the Rebellion as a whole is still unclear.
New episodes of Andor are streaming every Wednesday on Disney+.
