Any revolution, no matter the size, requires funding. The budding Rebellion in Andor is no exception; their money hardships were directly addressed in the series. A temporary band-aid has arrived, however, in the form of around 80 million Galactic Credits stolen from the Empire. That money could make quite the impact, even accounting for Cassian’s cut.

At the moment, the Rebellion is spread out in small cells that don’t exactly operate together. Money is all the more crucial; if you display competence, you can attract people to the cause and get others to work together. There are many options for how the Rebels could spend this money, so we will focus on starfighter and weaponry costs. For reference, the YouTube channel Generation Tech calculated that 1 USD is about 1.44 Credits.

One of the most easily recognizable ships, the T-65 X-wing starfighters, were heavily used by the Rebels later on. These could go for anywhere from 65,000-150,000 Credits, depending on the age and how they are obtained. With 80 million credits, quite a few of these could be obtained; on the higher end of the price, about 533.

BTL Y-wing fighters were another popular ship the Rebels used over time. It was a modified version of the Clone Wars-era BTL-B Y-wing, modified to make the ship faster and easier to work on. These ships became a lot cheaper in the time of the Galactic Empire, going for around 60,000 Credits a pop. The Rebellion could get about 1,333 of these as is, so rounding off at 1,000 would be wise to account for necessary modifications and repairs.

Clearly shown during the Battle of Hoth, the A280 blaster rifle was fantastic for long-distance combat. It was also historically easy to acquire through the black market, due to high production numbers. They cost about 1,300 Credits, which makes them fairly cheap as well. The Rebels could buy over 60,000 of these alone if they went all-in.

The DH-17 blaster pistol was a commonly used weapon for close-quarters combat. Its semi-automatic firing capabilities and convenient size made it a very attractive option. The cost of this pistol could vary, but it could generally be found for about 550 credits. The Rebel cell from Andor could buy a whopping 145,454 of these if that’s what they wanted to do.

Any combination of these would do wonders for the armament of the Rebellion, but other costs need to be accounted for as well. Food, fuel, ammunition, and labor need to be considered, so the Rebels likely won’t put all their eggs into one basket. Still, 80 million credits can clearly buy a lot.

Seeing how the money is spent in the coming storylines will surely be interesting. No matter what they do, it will undoubtedly make a huge difference for the cause. What do you think? What should the Rebel cell do with this massive amount of credits? What would you?
