A smashing appearance. The latest episode of The Bad Batch saw our titular team of clones help out a group of young miners working under an oppressive tyrant. “Retrieval” picked up immediately after the last episode “The Crossing,” in which the Batch found themselves stranded on a desert planet covered with ipsium mines. After their ship, the Marauder, was stolen from them in the previous episode, they used their Gonk droid’s signal to track it down. They confronted the thief, Benni, one of the local kids enlisted to mine ipsium for a ruthless taskmaster named Mokko. While Mokko’s species has not been identified as of yet, his voice may be familiar to a lot of people.

Jonathan Lipow is a prominent voice actor who has a number of smaller roles under his belt. He has lent his voice to countless villains and foot-solders across many video games and animated series like Final Fantasy VII Remake, Halo Wars, God of War, and Doom Patrol. His biggest role thus far was The Hulk and Abomination in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. Though his role in the movie was uncredited, Lipow has made a name for himself in the voice-acting business with his deep, gravelly vocals. His talents gave Mokko a level of intimidation that made his role as taskmaster all the more believable. This is actually not his first role in the Star Wars franchise as he also voiced the young Wookiee Gungi earlier this season, and a number of minor characters in Star Wars Resistance, Star Wars: Visions, and Star Wars: The Old Republic MMORPG.

At this point in time when only the most widely known voice actors seem to get offered roles in the biggest franchises, it is nice to see lesser-known talents like Lipow get the green light.
