'The Bad Batch' Brings back The Kinraths From 'Knights of The Old Republic'
The Bad Batch has just brought back a unique species from Legends, the Kinrath. “What’s a Kinrath?” you ask? Well, don’t be too surprised you don’t know what they are. They were only really shown in Knights of the Old Republic, and rarely made other appearances. A Kinrath is a large, arachnoid creature with four legs and an appendage that came out of their face.
They were blind, but could sense heat and identify others of their hive by their scent. There were two other types of Kinrath, Viper Kinrath, which were poisonous, and Hive Kinrath, which lived underground. The Kinrath could be found on Dantooine and Kashyyyk.
REALTED:
The Kinrath served as enemies in Knights of the Old Republic video game, where they could be found on both Dantooine and Kashyyyk. Both Viper Kinrath and Hive Kinrath appear in the game. Apart from that, they only really appeared in supplemental materials. This makes their reappearance something of a surprise. Of course, this is not the first time that Legends material has appeared in the canon continuity, as many writers have been borrowing from the old Expanded Universe for years now.
Kinrath were originally set to appear in The Clone Wars, where they would have attacked several Wookies and members of Clone Force 99. This episode appears to have been reworked for The Bad Batch as episode 6: “Tribe”. In this version, the Kinrath only become hostile to attacking Trandoshans, and worked with the Wookies to drive them out.
The Kinrath are a really unique species which add another level of lore to the bad batch. The Bad Batch is now airing on Disney+, so please be on the lookout for more episodes.
