How Will Massive Entertainment's 'Star Wars: Outlaws' Game Fits Into The Star Wars Universe?
Once again, more possibilities and opportunities to further expand the Star Wars universe are being presented, this time in the form of a new video game. According to The Mirror, “Ubisoft has finally unveiled its previously announced open-world Star Wars game from Massive Entertainment as Star Wars Outlaws. This open-world game was revealed on the Xbox Showcase on June 11. Information on the game regarding plot details and actual gameplay has yet to be released, but visually, the game appears promising.
What is known about the new Star Wars game is that it is “Set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.” The trailer introduced players and fans alike to Kay Vess, a character paralleling Han Solo. Her main objective is to do “everything in her power to take it to the Empire as she becomes one of the galaxy's most wanted.” Similarly to Han Solo, she travels with her own companion. Rather than a Wookie, Vess’s companion is Nix, a “weird little creature” resembling a salamander. Nix’s role in the game appears to be joining Glup Shittos.

Given the trailer of Star Wars: Outlaws has been released, a gameplay teaser allowed Star Wars aficionados to be a part of one of the "biggest heists the Outer Rim has ever seen" as the Rebel Alliance regroups before the discovery of the second Death Star. Despite the second Death Star being central to the plot of the original trilogy, Star Wars: Outlaws allows fans a true chance to immerse themselves in a world so dear to them. Rather than envying Han Solo, fans have the chance to be Han Solo before his introduction into the Star Wars timeline.
The full description of the Star Wars: Outlaws game reads as is:
"Experience the first-ever open world 'Star Wars' game, set between the events of 'The Empire Strikes Back' and 'Return of the Jedi.' Explore distinct planets across the galaxy, both iconic and new. Risk it all as Kay Vess, an emerging scoundrel seeking freedom and the means to start a new life, along with her companion Nix. Fight, steal, and outwit your way through the galaxy’s crime syndicates as you join the galaxy's most wanted."
Hopes for the games are varied. While some hopes are high and some wait on bated breath, there is no doubt the latest addition to the Star Wars universe has a ready and eager audience awaiting it. Time will tell whether or not the wait until 2024 will be worth it.
