How A Couple Of Clone Troopers Accidentally Wiped Out A Planet
Many bad things happened during the Clone Wars. Among the worst was the accidental genocide of the Noghri on the planet Honoghr. The Noghri were not technologically advanced and had no stake in the Clone Wars. They were just tragic collateral damage.
According to Legends, it started with the Separatists launching a bioweapon program that would be effective against clones without harming battle droids. Their lab was on a core ship called the Gahenna. The Separatists had a breakthrough in the form of Trihexalophine 1138, which was a defoliant designed to kill all plant life on an entire planet, rendering it uninhabitable.

The Separatists originally planned to use their new weapon on Naboo, but the Republic discovered their plan and sent a ship to intercept the Gahenna en route. They met over the planet Honoghr and a battle ensued. There were many casualties, and most of the personnel on both sides abandoned their ships. A couple of clone troopers who were left on the Republic ship fired the fateful shot which caused the Gahenna to crash on Honoghr. The Trihexalophine 1138 leaked from the crashed ship and gradually spread across Honoghr. The planet’s ecosystem was essentially destroyed.
Years later, Darth Vader came to Honoghr with a squad of stormtroopers. The Noghri fought and killed all the stormtroopers, but Vader was able to subdue them. He was so impressed with the way they fought that he promised them the Empire would restore their planet in exchange for the Noghri fighting for the empire. This was, of course, a lie, but the Noghri wound up fighting for the Empire for thirty years.
Things only got better for the Noghri and Honoghr in 9 ABY, when Leia visited the planet. She told the Noghri that Vader was dead, and that the Empire had lied to them. The New Republic actually helped to clean up Honoghr, and the Noghri became steadfast allies.
This is the story of how a couple of clone troopers accidentally wiped out a planet. They must have thought they were doing good at the moment and may never even find out the damage they caused. It is a strong lesson on how tragic war can be.
