Here's Why Travelling Outside Of The Galaxy Was Dangerous In 'Star Wars'

In a galaxy far, far away with numerous characters of varying origins; from home planets that once only lived in the head of George Lucas himself yet have been brought to life for fans to enjoy through multiple media options from movies on the big screen to Disney+ mini-series to full animated television shows one thing we do not often or plainly witness is folks leaving the galaxy itself. Why might that be? Justin with EckhartsLadder discusses this quandary in his YouTube video titled “The Horrors of Travelling OUTSIDE the Galaxy | Star Wars Lore”
Hyperspace turbulence or the hyperbaric barrier is the main reason for the danger. This is not to include Kamino which is technically just outside of the galaxy or even the small planet systems just beyond the borders either. Justin discusses the dangers of traveling further outside of the reach of the galaxy. A few commenters on the video made very good supportive arguments as well. One such user – Lady Grey states “there's probably another, more spiritual (and Lovecraftian) reason why Force-users, in particular, don't travel outside the galaxy - the sheer utter lack of the Force itself. We know that just being near black holes is enough to drive Jedi and Sith to bouts of paranoia and insanity and that life creates and sustains the Force. Hence it could be said where there is no life (the intergalactic void), the Force is absent.”

Fellow YouTube user, Tyler Smith agrees, stating that “One interesting theory might be that hyperspace as we know it is different because of all the gravity present inside a galaxy. We know that being too close to a gravity well causes you to fall out of hyperspace, so what if without the ambient amount of weaker gravity, you would experience inside the galaxy it is impossible to return from hyperspace or maybe your acceleration through hyperspace becomes uncontrollable? The very lack of the galaxy is the problem.”

Princess Leia Organa addresses the little-known issue related to intergalactic space travel in reference to the Amaxine warriors who left the galaxy never to be heard from again after realizing that they would never be able to defeat the Old Republic. Wookieepedia states that “It was said that those who have tried to transverse the space outside the galaxy never returned with the only trace of their travels; distorted messages warning of space hazards like geomagnetic anomalies.”
