The Force was strong at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim 2022 this past spring with the announcement of a slew of Star Wars shows premiering on Disney+ in the upcoming months. By the end of this month we will see the much anticipated Andor, and 2023 will bring us Season 3 of The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, and…Grammar Rodeo?

Grammar Rodeo, as it turns out, was the code name for Skeleton Crew, a live-action series that slid under the radar until the big announcement this past spring. As it is set to debut in the coming year, it seems that Disney must have had it in the works for a while. Spider-Man alumni John Watts and Christopher Ford are the series’ creators, and they are teaming up with Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, producers of The Mandalorian. According to Kathleen Kennedy in an interview with Comicbook.com at Celebration: "Jon Watts came to me, very much wanting to do a sort of Goonies in Star Wars. Needless to say, I'm going to say yes. And so it's just evolved out of that kind of enthusiasm in wanting to tell stories in this space."

What is the premise of Skeleton Crew? Jon Watts explained at Celebration: “The series will be a story about a group of kids, about 10 years old, from a tiny little planet who accidentally get lost in the Star Wars galaxy. And it's the story of their journey trying to find their way home...we liked the idea of using kids to give you a different perspective and see the galaxy through a different pair of eyes.“

While the names of the young actors are not yet disclosed, a big name in the cast is Jude Law, who is known for his roles in The Aviator, Road to Perdition, The Talented Mr. Ripley, and Sherlock Holmes, to name a few. He has also been friends for many years with Obi-Wan Kenobi star Ewan McGregor. Coincidence?

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is in production at Manhattan Beach Studios, where The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Ahsoka have been filmed. It is set for release in 2023.
