During Season One of Star Wars: Andor, we are introduced to the planet Ferrix. A reddish planet with very little plant life, Ferrix was located in the free trade center. In the Ferrix shipyard, ship wreckage were salvaged and used for parts by needy customers and pilots. Unfortunately, most of these ships were too far gone. It’s nearly impossible to tell what they used to be. Of course, that hasn’t stopped one curious fan from trying to find out. Looking up various concept art for the series, the Youtube channel Generation Tech Shorts was able to figure out what they used to be.

Concept artwork shows that the salvaged ships are supposed to be Venator-class Star Destroyers. These were versatile capital ships used by the Republic during the Clone Wars. Venator-class Star Destroyers were a mainstay of the Republic navy and were seen in many different space battles and episodes in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Though they were discontinued after the end of the war, they were direct ancestors of the Imperial-class Star Destroyers, an iconic ship in the Imperial Navy. Between 1,137 and 1,155.0 meters in length, Venator-class ships were some of the largest ships of that era.

Ferrix wasn’t the only planet salvaging old Republic ships. The Junkyard planet Bracca was filled with old Republic equipment, waiting to be salvaged by those who wanted a piece. These ships were more complete than the ones on Ferrix, given that the events of Jedi: Fallen Order happened nearly ten years before Andor. The show’s first season completed its run on November 23, 2022, with a second season to follow in 2024. It’s the little details in the background that always keep Star Wars fresh, as there is always something to pick out.
