All Of The Different Type Of Force Users In ‘Star Wars’
While the galaxy far, far away features numerous aliens, starships, and droids, one thing that makes Star Wars stand out from other epic space operas is the Force. As Master Yoda put it, the Force is created by all living beings, which surrounds and penetrates all and binds the galaxy together. Throughout the 45 years since Star Wars was introduced to audiences on the silver screen, there have been numerous wielders of the Force. From noble Jedi to scheming Sith, here are ten different types of Force users in Star Wars - from Canon and Legends - that you need to know.
The Bendu

This mysterious being wielded the Force but did not follow the philosophies of the Jedi or the Sith and referred to himself as ‘the one in the middle.’ Living on the planet of Atollon, the Bendu had been hibernating for an unknown amount of time before telepathically reaching out to Kanan Jarrus. Powerful in the Force, the Bendu displayed abilities such as telepathy, manipulating storms, and disappearing at will.

Dark Jedi
The term Dark Jedi has been used throughout Star Wars stories as an umbrella term for Jedi who have fallen to the Dark side of the Force but are not formally Sith. In most cases, this meant that Dark Jedi may serve a Sith master but are not their apprentice, such as in the case of Asajj Ventress or Mara Jade from Legends. Other Dark Jedi from Legends include Inquisitor Jerec, a fallen Jedi Master, and Desann, who defected from Luke Skywalker’s Jedi Praxeum.
Former Jedi

Former Jedi is another umbrella term for those who have left or have been exiled from the Jedi Order but have not been corrupted by the dark side. While the Jedi Order has been portrayed as a noble organization, it is not without fault. Examples of former Jedi include Ahsoka Tano and Jedi Master Eeth Koth, as well as Jedi Master Aqinos from Legends.
The Guardians Of The Whills

The Guardians of the Whills were a monastic order of Force worshippers. Founded sometime before the Invasion of Naboo, the Guardians of the Whills had a presence in Jedha City. There, the Guardians of the Whills protected pilgrims to the Temple of the Kyber. During the Imperial Era, members of the Guardians of the Whills also became involved with resistance against the Empire. Chirrut Îmwe and Baze Malbus are two notable members of the Guardians of the Whills.
The Imperial Knights

The Imperial Knights, also known as Knights of the Fel Empire, are Force-wielding Fel Empire soldiers born out of the Imperial remnant. With their striking red armor, these warriors were loyal to Emperor Roan Fel of the Galactic Empire and did not strictly adhere to the Force’s light or dark side. In Legends lore, the Imperial Knights flourished 130 years after the Battle of Yavin.
The Inquisitorius

Led by the Grand Inquisitor, the Inquisitorius, or the Imperial Inquisition, are a group of Jedi hunters trained by Darth Vader to hunt down any remaining Jedi in the aftermath of Order 66 and the rise of the Galactic Empire. These Jedi hunters, known as Inquisitors, consisted of former Jedi, Padawans, and other Force-sensitives. In Legends, the Inquisitorius was a part of Imperial Intelligence and had numerous members, such as High Inquisitor Jerec.
The Jedi

The Jedi are the Galactic Republic protectors and wield the Force’s light side. Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, and Mace Windu were prominent Jedi before the rise of the Empire. New Jedi such as Ezra Bridger and Cal Kestis rose during the Imperial age. After the Galactic Civil War, Luke Skywalker attempted to revive the Jedi order. In Legends, Luke successfully established the New Jedi Order, including Kyle Katarn and the twins Jacen and Jaina Solo.
The Knights Of Ren

This group comprised of mysterious dark side warriors who followed Kylo Ren. Active during the time of the Galactic Civil War, this band of marauders once allied themselves with the criminal organization Crimson Dawn. The Knights of Ren followed a leader called ‘Ren,’ with Ben Solo taking on the role and naming himself Kylo Ren. When Ben Solo redeemed himself, the Knights of Ren fought him at the Battle of Exegol, where they were finally destroyed.
The Nightsisters
The Nightsisters of Dathomir wield the dark side of the Force through arcane magic. With their power, they ruled Dathomir, where the men, known as the Nightbrothers, served them. They avoided affiliation with the Sith or the Jedi during the Clone Wars. Notable Nightsisters included Mother Talzin, Asajj Ventress, and Nightsister Merrin.
The Sith

The antithesis to the Jedi, their sworn enemy across millennia, the Sith are masters of the dark side of the Force. While the Jedi use their Force powers to protect and defend, the Sith ravage and destroy. Led by the Dark Lords of the Sith, who are bestowed the title Darth, the merciless Sith value strength and power, removing any Sith Lord perceived as weak. In Legends, Darth Bane brought about the Rule of Two - a Master and an Apprentice - millennia before the rise of Palpatine.
