The Princess And The Scoundrel is the latest Star Wars novel to be published by Del Rey. Written by prominent author Beth Revis, the story follows Leia Organa and Han Solo on an unlikely adventure soon after their marriage on Endor. As they struggle to have a relaxing honeymoon on the Halcyon, they take a detour to the ice moon of Madurs in the Lenguin system. While scoping out a forbidden area on the moon, they discover an enormous device left by the Empire used to drill the moon’s core for resources.

Upon discovering this, they meet with the captain, who had been showing them around the moon, and find out from him that the Empire never left Madurs after the Emperor’s death. They are then confronted by the Imperial officer in charge of the operation on Madurs, Alecia Beck, Senior Commander of the Imperial Security Bureau.

RELATED:

For those unaware, Beck is a returning antagonist from the middle school novel Star Wars: Smuggler’s Run by Greg Rucka. Set in-between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, the novel follows Han and Chewbacca as they utilize the Millennium Falcon to accomplish a top-secret mission for the Rebel Alliance. Said mission is to rescue Caluan Emmat, a former rebel operative, from the planet Cyrkon. Ematt is being hunted by Beck and her fellow Imperials, and Han and Chewbacca seem to be the best options for the rescue mission. But, as one would expect, the smuggler and his Wookiee companion came out on top, outsmarting Beck and reuniting Ematt with Leia Organa, alongside whom he would later serve as a general for the Resistance during the war with the First Order.

Needless to say, Beck didn’t take the loss well and would return a few years later as a surprise antagonist for The Princess and the Scoundrel. Still holding a strong grudge against Han, Beck would try to prevent the people of Madurs from evacuating as the device continued to drill the unstable moon. Fortunately, Han and Leia were able to stop the device with the help of the moon’s citizens and local fauna and find a way to prevent the moon from collapsing.

However, Beck ultimately managed to escape and will likely continue to serve the remnants of the Empire, if not eventually the First Order. With Beck confirmed to still be alive after Return of the Jedi, is it possible we could see her appear in future stories set between the original and sequel trilogies? In fact, could we even see her have a role in The Mandalorian or any of the other Star Wars series taking place around that time?

As we’ve already seen with Cobb Vanth in The Mandalorian and Krrsantan in The Book of Boba Fett, the current Star Wars shows aren’t afraid of bringing more obscure characters from the novels and comics into live action. Alecia Beck is a character with an iconic design and role in the Imperial remnant that is easy to convey onscreen. Her rivalry with Han Solo could also make her an interesting foil for Boba Fett, who has a similar grudge towards the notorious smuggler.

With the Mandoverse seemingly building towards a plot involving Imperial heavy hitters like Gideon and Thrawn, I could easily see an Imperial character like Beck fitting into that. With the First Order still a ways away, the remnants of the Empire will probably need all the officers they can summon. In an age where Imperial agents are scattered and desperate, any help will likely be welcomed by the still struggling Empire. When it comes to rebuilding his power, gathering forces will likely be Palpatine’s first order of business.
