Who Will Die In The Finale Of ‘Star Wars: Andor’?

“The time to fight is now!” This famous line from Jyn Erso in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is feeling entirely appropriate right now as we near the end of Andor’s first season. The prequel series focusing on Cassian Andor and the early days of the Rebel Alliance has proven to be quite the sleeper hit for the galaxy far, far away. Despite lower ratings compared to Obi-Wan Kenobi and The MandalorianAndor has pushed the boundaries of Star Wars storytelling with each new episode. With dynamic characters and a compelling plot, the series has been fleshing out the various rebel cells and the more corporate aspects of the Empire while exploring relevant topics such as fascism, slavery,  adoption, and immigration.

In the most recent episode titled “Daughter of Ferrix,” we see the people on Ferrix cope with the death of Cassian’s mother, Maarva, while Cassian and Melshi make their way off Narkina 5 before going their separate ways. The episode is heartbreaking and foreboding as we see the various subplots and character threads coming to a head throughout the season. So with Cassian returning to Ferrix to mourn his mother and the Empire also going there to finally snuff out Luthen’s growing revolution, we have to wonder. Who is going to survive the upcoming season finale?

At this point, there are four characters who we know will live past the episode. Cassian Andor, Ruescott Melshi, Mon Mothma, and Saw Gerrera. Aside from them, every other cast member could be killed off. We’ll begin with the most likely candidates; Dedra Meero, Syril Karn, and Luthen Rael. Meero and Karn have been prominent antagonists throughout the season, and neither of them is seen in media set after the series. However, I will say that Meero does have more staying power as an antagonist than Karn, so I would rather her be kept around than him.

With that said, though, Meero could still be killed in the finale, especially since we’ve yet to see the uprising on Ferrix seen in the marketing, and Meero is still on the planet where she continues to oversee Bix’s interrogation. Seeing Bix escape and possibly even kill Meero in the process could be a satisfying moment of retribution and a turning point for her character as she officially joins the growing revolution.

To put this bluntly, Karn has been on the chopping block for a while now. His obsession with arresting Cassian and desire to be taken seriously by his superiors has pushed him to abandon his mother on Coruscant and return to the Pre-Mor Authority to at last avenge the deaths of his fellow employees. However, with how selfish and impulsive Karn can be and how much Meero and the rest of the ISB clearly don’t want anything to do with him, I think it’s likely that we’ll see Karn throw himself right into the heat of the upcoming battle against the wills of those he serves. If Karn doesn’t get killed in a firefight by Cassian or Luthen, he may very well be executed by the ISB due to his interference. This would be a tragic yet fitting ending for Karn’s story, as his bloodlust and desire to become a powerful Imperial would lead to his death at the hands of the very Empire he wished to serve.

Last but far from least is Luthen. Luthen’s reckless abandon and ironclad determination put him directly in the Empire’s crosshairs. As we saw in the latest episode, he is willing to fight Imperials head-on if need be. Luthen has even said he knows he isn’t likely to live to see the revolution he is stoking across the galaxy. Knowing that Luthen and Saw will leave Anto Kreegyr and his fighters to be killed by the ISB leaves the door open for them to get involved in the Ferrix uprising as well. If that is indeed the case, could we see Luthen die at the hands of Meero or another high-ranking Imperial? Whoever does end up killing Luthen they’re likely to have a good fight on their hands, given his skills and prowess as a rebel.

If Andor has shown us anything, it’s that nobody is invincible. Every episode has demonstrated how easily even the most seasoned rebel or Imperial can be taken out in the heat of war. As the rebellion’s formation begins to crystallize, we will likely see a significant loss of life on Ferrix. At this point, every character who isn’t in Rogue One could be killed in the next episode. However many of the characters we lose in the Season 1 finale, we’ll hopefully see the survival of at least one rogue.
