In the galaxy far, far away the story of Din Djarin and Grogu continues to unfold on Disney+ with the upcoming release of The Mandalorian season 3 later this year, on March 1, which teases a confusing reunion between the two characters.

The Mandalorian, Driven By Its Own Success

Since their first appearance on November 2019, Djarin and Grogu (best known as Baby Yoda) became fan favorites and have joined the roster of famed characters within the Star Wars franchise. So much so that after its first season Pedro Pascal’s Star Wars series has been extended with two additional seasons and the two iconic characters were granted a cameo in The Book of Boba Fett.

The last time we saw Djarin and Grogu together, in The Mandalorian series, was at the end of Chapter 16: The Rescue where Djarin and his allies defeated the Dark Troopers, after which Grogu left Djarin to go complete his training with a de-aged Luke Skywalker. Then, in chapter 5 of The Book of Boba Fett series, the Mandalorian goes to check on Grogu and helps Boba Fett in his war against the Pyke Syndicate. So now, what’s next?

Disney Teases A Dive Into Mandalorian Culture

To tease the upcoming release of the show’s season 3, Disney released a suspenseful teaser trailer marked by the Mandalorian’s voiceover saying, “Our people are scattered like stars in a galaxy. What are we? What do we stand for? Being a Mandalorian is not just learning about how to fight. You also have to know how to navigate the galaxy. That way, you’ll never be lost.”

As per this trailer, this next season will focus on Djarin who is willing to dive into the Mandalorian culture and identity by looking for his home planet, Mandalore, to find the answers to his initial question, “What are we?” His journey is also driven by his need for redemption after he transgressed one of the Mandalorians’ codes of conduct which is to never reveal their identity, which Djarin did at the end of season 2 by removing his helmet to give Grogu a proper goodbye.

From My Return, Confusion Shall Stem

Surprisingly, this trailer also teases Grogu’s official return to the series after he left Djarin at the end of season 2. Although trailers can often be misleading, here, we see new footage of Grogu and Djarin traveling together like in the old days, which might be confusing if you didn’t watch Boba Fett as no reunion was teased in The Mandalorian’s season 2 finale.

It’s the first time that Star Wars fans have experienced interconnectivity between shows. Usually, within Disney’s realm, we only see that happening in the MCU. However, Disney might now start to spread this practice among its other franchises too.

Rendezvous on March 1, 2023, on Disney+ to watch The Mandalorian season 3.
