The newest episode of Andor on Disney+ has hinted that something very dark is about to happen in a future episode. First, we’re reintroduced to Mon Mothma, who is currently a member of the Imperial Senate but also living a double life, planting seeds of rebellion. We’re also treated to Luthen passing as an eccentric antique dealer, selling to Coruscant’s elite, but also serving as a messenger, informing Mothma that there are whispers of the Empire being aware of her secret plans.

Mon Mothma visits Luthen to purchase an antique for her husband, Perrin, for his Day of Days, a Chandrilian custom. It is there that Luthen and Mon discuss the difficulty of trying to secretly make plans and shuffle funding for the rebellion. After she visits with Luthen, Mothma comes home to discover that she’s forgotten about a dinner that her husband is planning with several Imperial guests that she disagrees with and expresses that the feeling is mutual.

RELATED:

During their argument, we learn that the Empire mistreats the planet of Ghorman by blockading numerous shipping lanes. We’re not given a reason as to why, but given the Empire’s track record, there really doesn’t need to be one to do whatever they want. Protestors consistently block landing pads so Imperial ships cannot land on Ghorman. This act of defiance against the Empire eventually led to the Ghorman Massacre.

Taking place in 2 BBY, the Ghorman Massacre was an event where Imperial troops slaughtered peaceful protestors on the planet of Ghorman. Without going into spoiler territory, the massacre shows that Tarkin has been the same ruthless and cold-hearted person throughout his Imperial career. Shortly after the massacre, Mon Mothma publicly blamed Emperor Palpatine for the deaths of the protestors. Doing so caused the Empire to go after Mothma and try (and fail) to capture her. This became the rallying cry of what would become the rebellion against the Empire.

Since the current season of Andor takes place in 5 BBY, we may have to wait until next season to see if the Ghorman Massacre will be shown on screen.
