Revenge is a word that defines the last years of the Galactic Republic. In the coming decade, that exact revenge will be pivotal in the status of the galaxy. The Sith make their final attack against the Jedi Order and the Republic in just one movement. A plan hundreds of years in the making was finally achieved by none other than Darth Sidious, a cunning man with a purpose and thirst for power. Revenge also molds each of his apprentices in the Dark Arts, but one of them took the vow of revenge quite close to his heart: Darth Maul.

After being defeated by Obi-Wan in the Battle of Naboo, he was left for dead; but, as we know in the Star Wars universe, “revenge does wonder for the will to live.” Maul’s rage against the young Jedi allows him to survive for a long time. During the clone wars, Maul used the underworld as a means to stay alive long enough to ensure that his revenge would be executed properly. Eventually, his company in this criminal world and the dark teachings of the Sith were the perfect combination to create something more complex and sinister.

RELATED:

Crimson Dawn was originally a criminal band that took over planets and tortured the people who lived on them. Ruthless and brutal. This caught the attention of our fallen Sith, who used their network to perform a more complex task. In the grand scheme of things, one could think Maul was more interested in grasping the power he was denied as a Sith apprentice, but Maul’s plan was always one of revenge against the two people he hated the most: Obi-Wan Kenobi and, naturally, Darth Sidious. Sith mythology, as Darth Bane intended, explained that “there must only be two, a master and an apprentice.” When one’s knowledge of the dark side of the force is complete, they don’t need a master anymore. So, as a Sith, it is the necessary to defeat the master and continue your path as a more powerful Sith. No matter what, hate and power must always come first. Darth Maul’s path as the leader of one of the most powerful crime syndicates in the galaxy is no different from Darth Sidious’ plan to take over the galaxy using politics; both approaches led to hate and suffering for beings across the galaxy, in their own ways.

One of the core aspects in Crimson Dawn’s conception was always to antagonize Darth Sidious’ Empire and gain control of the galaxy for themselves. Crimson Dawn kept existing after the passing of Maul, and Qi’ra continued his endeavors without much success. But as the final fight between Maul and Obi-wan Kenobi took place on the sands of Tatooine, in the end, Maul’s heart only wanted revenge. He found Kenobi and fought him one last time, expecting to finally defeat him, but Kenobi had the upper hand once more. With his last breath, he delivered a very Sith idea: “He will avenge us.” So, despite the fact that he was the big boss of the underworld, and that his crime syndicate brought pain and suffering to the galaxy, in the end, it was all for revenge: a Sith’s revenge.
