Galactic Starcruiser Could Be Used As A Set For Future ‘Star Wars’ Adaptations
Disney’s multimillion-dollar hotel project, Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, first opened in March 2022 at the Walt Disney World Resort. Guests were able to participate in a fully immersive role-playing adventure in the Star Wars universe for two nights, until its untimely closing in September 2023. Galactic Starcruiser only held space for guests in 100 rooms at a time, placing it in a group of boutique hotels.
There were many positives with the hotel, which resembled an interactive "cruise ship" called the Halcyon on the interior, including exclusive experiences with a personal storyline and opportunities to interact with Star Wars characters and adventures. Still, the costs of technology, entertainment, and staff led to very high costs for guests - the minimum room rate for two guests was almost $5,000. Guests could only stay for two nights, arriving and leaving with all others “onboard” like a cruise.

After the Star Wars flagship hotel closed its doors earlier this year, there have been many speculations on what the building might be used for next. Of course, it's possible that Disney could just tear it down or leave it empty for a time, collecting dust and critters. Potentially, the Halcyon could be remodeled for another hotel concept or even an interactive attraction outside of the four Disney World Parks. Another thought the Disney fanbase has had is that it could become an expansion of Galaxy’s Edge in Hollywood Studios, supporting the immersive experiences that the hotel was based around like lightsaber training and Resistance missions.
One other possibility is that the hotel’s interior could be used for a set for a future Star Wars show or movie. If a new production called for it, the Halcyon could be used for interior shots of a ship or a base, or the rooms could be used for the set of living quarters. The Galactic Starcruiser’s design team didn’t leave anything to the imagination. There’s a full atrium, an operable bridge, a bar, a dining room, and other areas that could serve above and beyond for future live-action scenes.
With many of the recent Star Wars movies and shows being set in the New Republic, it would be the perfect time to show Chandrila, Mon Mothma’s homeworld, via the Chandrila Star Line and the Halcyon. In the novel The Princess and the Scoundrel by Beth Revis, Leia Organa and Han Solo take their honeymoon journey on the Halcyon, after encouragement from Mothma to help promote the Chandrila Star Line after the end of the war. After the Star Wars: The Halcyon Legacy comics in 2022, there is now information about Anakin and Padmé boarding the ship among other known Star Wars characters. We could even see Chandrila as early as season two of Andor, but it could be used in other adaptations as well, like possibly The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, or any other upcoming Star Wars project.
