Donald Glover Is Producing And Starring In A 'Spider-Man' Villain Movie
Well, Donald Glover has come a long way from his time playing Troy in Community.
Since we haven’t experienced the heat death of the universe, more and more comic book films are being released. It makes sense, Hollywood is all about making money, and with the inflation of ticket prices and the general decline in the quality of films, people only go to see a few movies a year. Instead of trying their luck with a movie they don’t know a lot about, they pay for the safe, recognizable fare in comic book films.
Who would have pegged that, in the era where nerd was an insult, and you were to be shunned if you were one? In any case, given that in the last fifteen years or so we’ve seen countless films about the heroes, it follows that now that we’re running out of the big ones it’s time to make ones about the villains.

We’ve already seen a few. We’ve gotten two Venom films, a Kraven film coming up, and the universally beloved cultural phenom Morbius, the favorite for every single Oscar this year and highest grossing film of all time by a mile, even adjusting for inflation.
Now we have Donald Glover throwing his hat in the ring. Under the Sony umbrella, Glover will produce and star in a film about the Hypno-Hustler, who is most famous in the Spider-verse for… uh… you know… there was that big story thread where he…
Okay, so Hypno-Hustler might not be a well-known adversary for Spider-Man, so it will be interesting to see exactly where Glover takes the character. Hypno-Hustler has appeared in some Spider-Man media beyond the comics (where he made fifteen appearances) such as a few video games, and an episode of The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Still, not many people beyond the ones who are really invested in Spider-Man lore are familiar with the character.
So far there’s no concrete release date for the film. Between the other half dozen other spinoffs, this one will probably be pushed back a while. Between now and then, we probably won’t get a ton of information on the project. Glover wouldn’t make this movie if he didn’t feel like he had something good for the movie-going public. We’ll just have to wait and see.
