Could The Armorer's Prophecy Of The Mythosaur Come True In 'The Mandalorian' Season 3?

The Mandalorian Season 3 is off to a strong start. The second episode had Din Djarin and Grogu venturing to Mandalore for Din to bathe in the Living Waters and cleanse himself in order to become a real Mandalorian again. However, things did not go as planned, and Bo-Katan returned to save the day. As she pulled Din from the depths of the waters, she faced the ancient beast known as the mythosaur. The creature is clearly important to the Mandalorians as evident when Bo-Katan recounted the legend to Din. However, this is not the first mention of the lore surrounding the mythosaur.

In The Book of Boba Fett, the Armorer told Din of a prophecy that even she did not seem to believe:

“The songs of eons past foretold of the mythosaur rising up to herald a new age of Mandalore…Sadly it only exists in legends.”

That turns out not to be the case at all, considering Bo-Katan came face to face with the mythical beast.

Fans that watched The Clone Wars already know what happened to Mandalore. The Mandalorian showed the aftermath of the destruction in live-action. What was once a prosperous planet lay in ruins. The Mandalorians are broken, and they need a leader to bring them back together and restore Mandalore to what it once was. That person must also wield the Darksaber, the symbol of the rightful ruler of Mandalore. Bo-Katan is not happy that Din currently has the weapon. However, the Darksaber may not be enough to restore Mandalore to its former glory. The prophecy also mentions a “mythosaur rising up to herald a new age of Mandalore.” With the Mythosaur being alive, fans may see it unfolds in this season of The Mandalorian. This begs the question. If the Mythosaur does rise up, then who will lead the Mandalorians in this new age?

Din is currently in the position to become the new ruler of Mandalore if he so desires. He has rightfully won the Darksaber from Moff Gideon in combat, and he has nothing to lose at this point. While he was not keen on the weapon at first, it seems to be growing on him and he no longer wants to give it up.

This poses a problem for Bo-Katan. She must win the Darksaber in combat to be considered the true leader of Mandalore. While she did wield the Darksaber in the past, it was given to her, which was why the Mandalorians did not follow her. Even though Bo-Katan has been an ally to Din and even saved his life, the two could end up fighting for possession of the Darksaber. Bo-Katan wishes to be the one to reunite the Mandalorians and restore Mandalore. Now it might just be a matter of the mythosaur actually rising up to herald this new age. On the other hand, its sighting could also mean nothing, and the Armorer’s prophecy will remain the stuff of legends.

The introduction of the mythosaur in Episode 2 could mean a new age of Mandalore is on the horizon. While the prophecy may not come to pass in Season 3 of The Mandalorian, the mythosaur is no longer just a legend. Mandalore has a real chance at returning to its former glory, and that is something both Bo-Katan and Din can agree on.
