But Is It Canon? Where Does 'Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures' Fit Into The Star Wars Universe?

Since we haven’t hit the heat death of the universe yet, Disney is still pumping out more Star Wars content. The latest offering from a galaxy far, far away is the new show aimed at kids Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures. Set several hundred years before the events of The Phantom Menace, this latest show takes place during the era of the High Republic, a sort of Pax Romana-esque era of galactic history. This does make sense since a show for five-year-olds where they have to contend with the likes of Darth Bane or the Jedi Civil War wouldn’t quite fit with the tone of a children’s show of this nature.

Given the show’s period and tone, there is the question of whether or not the events are canon. The history of the Star Wars universe is vast, and we haven’t explored even a fraction of galactic history in any of its media. This is especially true when Disney dubbed made almost all Star Wars media “Legends” when it purchased the rights to the franchise, making almost everything that had happened outside of the movies and shows non-canon.

The points toward it being made canon are that it is unlikely to interfere with the events of the Skywalker saga. It takes place far enough back that they cannot even reference what will come in the future, except maybe as Easter eggs for any parents watching. For the moment, though, all we have is speculation. Maybe Disney will never say one way or the other and we’ll just be left with a fun show for kids that will showcase the Jedi at their best.

It’s probably for the best that the show is set in the era that it is. It would probably majorly clash with the tone of the show if the series finale was Order 66 and Obi-Wan’s heartbroken “not even the younglings survived.”
