Star Wars series Andor is nearing the end of its run, and the final episode is already making a splash on the web just a few days before its streaming release. It is very common for large YouTubers and journalists to be given early access screeners to review and hype up the community without, of course, spoiling anything. One of them, EcksClips, a Star Wars-focused YouTuber who is on the Star Wars press list, recently watched the final episode of Andor and he described it as “phenomenal”.

According to him, there was no NDA or embargo, so he posted his very brief thoughts on Andor's season finale (without spoilers) on his YouTube channel. As matter of fact, the Youtuber provided a realistic take on the episode and on how the entire series has been received so far. He said, “Do not temper your expectations for the finale. It’s phenomenal.” Adding that, however, “if you didn’t like the show until now, this won’t change it for you.” Namely, the show is good but not for everyone.

EcksClips’ views on the final episode reflect how the show is perceived by the fans of the franchise and how it struggles to find its audience within that pool. Unlike previous Star Wars productions like The Mandalorian or Obi-Wan, Andor is a show that showcases more maturity and discusses darker themes such as loss, imprisonment, the unfairness of society as a social apparatus, and war. It’s a show that tells a story by demonstrating emotion and downplaying the action. That already filters out some of the fans and targets a more mature audience.

Besides, Andor is not a Star Wars tale featuring a Skywalker or a Jedi. More importantly, it doesn't shy away from being subtle with its easter eggs and cameos. Instead, the show celebrates and takes pride in being what it is, a Star Wars side story. The show aims to tell the back story of Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) and to breathe life into the different cultures in the Star Wars universe. This is Lucasfilm breaking free from the Star Wars formula and, according to EcksClips, the show will continue on that track with a final, very emotional, episode that is very “similar to episode 3.”

The final episode of Andor will be available on Disney+ this Wednesday, November 23.
