Star Wars Alums, Moses Ingram And Natalie Portman Head To Apple TV For 'Lady In The Lake'

Moses Ingram and Natalie Portman

As the Star Wars universe expands it welcomes brand new characters, worlds, and droids. Behind the scenes of Lucas's epic lies the possibility of its actors branching into new roles and films. Similarily to the leading trio, the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi star Moses Ingram (Reva and a brief Grand Inquisitor) has joined forces with another Star Wars alum to broaden her horizons and expand her acting prowess.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Ingram was confirmed to be starring alongside Natalie Portman in her series Lady In the Lake premiering on Apple TV. With Ingram making a splash for her vast emotional and acting range as Reva, aka Third Sister, Ingram has solidified her praise. From ruthlessly hunting down Obi-Wan and the young Princess Leia while coming to terms with being an unfortunate witness to the aftermath of Order 66 (sorry, spoilers), Moses Ingram's performance will serve well and stand on its own, opposite to Natalie Portman.

While Ingram's fame and name grew to her role as Reva, aka, Third Sister, her appearance in Disney+'s Obi-Wan Kenobi isn't her first role. She also made a splash playing Jolene in Netflix's The Queen's Gambit and The Tragedy of Macbeth film in 2021. With a strong experience in acting on television already, Ingram has large shoes to fill as she was cast to replace Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o who had been cast previously but left the project in May.

Lady in the Lake is an adaptation of Laura Lippman’s novel. Alma Har’el serves as the show's creator and director with Natalie Portman herself serving as an executive producer. According to the Hollywood Reporter,

“The limited series takes place in ’60s Baltimore, where an unsolved murder pushes housewife and mother Maddie Schwartz (Natalie Portman's role) to reinvent her life as an investigative journalist and sets her on a collision course with Cleo Sherwood (Ingram), a hard-working woman juggling motherhood, many jobs and a passionate commitment to advancing Baltimore’s Black progressive agenda.”

As production continues, Apple TV+'s newest project allows both Portman and Ingram a dive into a project outside of their comfort zones. According to Lippman, the story was inspired by two real-life disappearances of two young women—one Black, one white—in 1960s Baltimore. “When I decided to write a novel set in the ’60s, I very much wanted to look at these two different deaths,” she told NPR in 2019, “and how differently they had been portrayed in media.” With such a ground-breaking premise for the limited series, the project sounds promising.

Both Ingram and Portman's acting talents will be put on display, possibly more here than in previous projects. While Natalie Portman's acting career started in 1994, her upcoming role as Maddie Schwartz is a far departure from Queen Amidala and Jane Foster just as Ingram's Cleo will be a far cry from Reva/ Third Sister. The anticipation is palpable.
