Tomi Adeyemi’s novel, Children of Blood and Bone, is getting an adaptation by Paramount Pictures. Director of The Woman King, Gina Prince-Bythewood, has been helmed to direct the adaptation, developing the next pass of Adeyemi’s draft.

The adaptation of Children of Blood and Bone has been a priority for Paramount since co-presidents Daria Cercek and Mike Ireland acquired the rights after Lucasfilm let their rights for the series lapse. Multiple studios were up for acquiring them, but Paramount’s final offer won out through incentives such as a guaranteed theatrical release and creative approvals for Adeyemi.

Adeyemi is one of the executive producers, along with Reggie Rock Bythewood. Three producing companies are part of the project. Temple Hill Entertainment (Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen), Sunswept Entertainment (Karen Rosenfelt), and Jackson Pictures (Matt Jackson).

Adapting the trilogy gives Prince-Bythewood another major franchise under her name after she successfully worked on the Netflix series The Old Guard. Having directed the epic feature film The Woman King for Sony’s Tristar Pictures in September 2022, her work on the film brought her several nominations from various film awards.

The trilogy is said to be one of the most substantial IPs since The Hunger Games, with the first novel and its sequel, Children of Virtue and Vengeance, both debuting at No. 1 on the New York Times bestseller list on release. The final novel of Adeyemi’s trilogy, Children of Anguish and Anarchy, is to be released on June 25, 2024.
