The Official Trailer For 'The Last Of Us' Has Been Released

Video game fans do not need to wait much longer. HBO Max has released the official trailer for their new streaming series The Last of Us. Based on the popular video game franchise of the same name, The Last of Us takes place in a post-apocalyptic world twenty years after a corrosive brain infection has ravaged human society. The story follows hardened survivor Joel as he attempts to smuggle 14-year-old Ellie out of a quarantine zone. The two struggle to survive the brutal landscape in a harrowing, heartbreaking journey.

The trailer features a rugged Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian, Wonder Woman 1984) as Joel, shepherding Bella Ramsey’s (Game of Thrones, Catherine Called Birdy) Ellie across the country. When she asks him why he would keep going on if he thinks there is no hope for the world, he responds, “You keep going for family.”

Throughout the trailer, there are references to the family that Joel has lost, and the bond he forges with Ellie. Along the way, the two encounter a wide cast of characters, including Gabriel Luna (True Detective) as Joel’s brother Tommy, Merle Dandridge (The Last of Us video game) as the resistance leader Marlene, and Anna Torv (Fringe) as the smuggler Tess. The series also stars Nico Parker (The Third Day), Murray Bartlett (The White Lotus), Storm Reid (Euphoria), and Jeffrey Pierce (The Last of Us video games). The trailer also offer glimpses of guest stars Graham Greene (Twilight) and Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation), who play survivors in isolated towns.

When asked about the best way to travel out west, Greene’s character advises Joel to go back east. It is clear why as fans are offered a brief shot of the “Infected” rising out of the fiery ground. With these monstrous, humanoid creatures in their way, Joel and Ellie will have to rely on each other to survive.

The Last of Us will be available to stream on January 15, 2023 on HBO Max.
