Game of Thrones fans have finally got a sneak peek at A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight. The latest Game of Thrones spinoff is based on George R.R Martin’s novellas set a hundred years before the murder of Ned Stark.

The image is of Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall, known as Dunk for short. Claffey will be partnered with Dexter Sol Ansell, who recently portrayed a young Coriolanus Snow in The Hunger Games: A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.  Dunk and Egg have three George R.R. Martin adventures of which the Hedge Knight is the first. So, it's likely that we are getting the origin story of their team-up.  But Finn Bennet is confirmed as Aerion Targaryen, so don’t expect this show to be without dragons.

Martin and Ira Parker, the creative team behind House of The Dragon, have chosen to hire fresh faces for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight.  It appears that they have more faith in the Game of Thrones brand this time. This might prove a solid decision when it comes to balancing actors’ scheduling commitments for future series.  The casting director, Lucy Bevan was responsible for Barbie, so there’s a good chance she’s pulled something special out of the bag.

Sarah Adina Smith (Lessons in Chemistry, Hanna) and Owen Harris (Black Mirror, Misfits, Secret Diary of a Call Girl) are both lined up to direct episodes. Looking at the talent on and off camera, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight could be the best entrant in the Game of Thrones franchise yet. But with its debut estimated as late in 2025, it’s going to be a long wait.
