The Scream horror franchise is returning to its origins as the upcoming Scream VII will focus on Sidney Prescott, a major presence in the first four films. Sidney is portrayed by Neve Campbell who couldn’t be more excited to return to the role. Campbell expressed, “I love these movies, they are so much fun to be a part of, I’m so grateful for them, I could never have imagined being a part of a movie that would have lasted this many decades.” The actress had previously left the Scream VI project due to a payment dispute. Scream VII initially had Melissa Barerra attached to the project, but producers fired her for what they considered antisemitic tweets. Sometime afterward Jenna Ortega left the project returning the filmmakers to the drawing board. Their sudden departure led to Campbell’s return to the franchise.

Campbell shared her gratitude for the franchise and reassured fans that the previous payment dispute hadn’t dampened her enthusiasm. She said, “I’m super grateful they came around on it. [Scream VI] just didn’t feel right. I couldn’t after this many decades of carrying a franchise, to feel undervalued and underpaid and to know it wouldn’t have happened to a man in that way. It just wouldn’t make sense for me to walk on that set. So I’m glad I stood up for myself.” Kevin Williamson, who had a hand in the first four movies whether in the writing room or producers’ chair, is set to direct Scream VII.
