Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios is known for their Yakuza or Like A Dragon if you’re in the West, series. The first six or so games focused on protagonist Kazuma Kiryu, and the two most recent games focused on Ichiban Kasuga. The most recent game, Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth took the crew to Hawaii. The studio is known for reusing maps, and at their summit today, they announced their newest game, Like A Dragon:  Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii.

The game stars fan-favorite character Goro Majima. It’s going to be a Gaiden-style game, so it will be much shorter than a mainline game. They released a seven-minute announcement trailer, and fans will be in for a ride. It starts with Majima, sitting down and talking to the fans about what happened to him. We see him wash up on a beach, where a child gives him water to help him out. In the story retelling, he doesn’t remember anything that happened to him, including his name. Majima and Noah, the child, encounter pirates, and Majima springs into action. The game takes place six months after the events of Infitie Welath, and we find out that all the toxic waste Palekana had stored up on the island, was finally found by someone, and it led to a controversy. Majima heads to Nele Island, and becomes captain of a ship, and subsequently a pirate, on his way to the island.

Yakuza games have always been wacky, but this is a whole new level. Fans shouldn’t worry, however, as minigames, and karaoke are all returning. Majima can get some money doing Crazy Delivery, something Ichiban could do in Infinite Wealth. There will also be go-karting, and the favorite, karaoke, including the return of his song from Yakuza 0, 24 Hour Cinderella. The game will also go back to its brawler style, instead of turn-baked. We will also see the return of some of Majima’s most famous moves, including a new one appropriately titled ‘Sea Dog’.

Fans have been hoping for Kiwami 3, or a third Judgement game. Some fans wanted a Majima-type Gaiden game, somehow though I don’t think this is what they meant. Either way, it’s finally Majima’s time in the spotlight.

Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii releases on February 25th, 2025, on all consoles, and is available to preorder now.
