Morfydd Clark And Charlie Vickers Discuss Season 2 Of 'The Rings Of Power'

Empire sat down with Morfydd Clark, who plays Galadriel, and Charlie Vickers, who plays Halbrand later revealed as Sauron, to talk about Season 2 of The Rings of Power. The pair confirmed that the first scene they filmed together was their scene on the raft. They got to know each other better between takes as the process of bringing them out of the water tank took too long. Vickers said they had no choice but to get to know each other. Clark added that the stunt training helped the cast to know each other better.
The actors confirmed they had stunt training for season two, but Vickers let slip a detail about the season. He said, “Well, I don’t actually do that much fighting in the second season — ah, apart from... There is one very exciting bit, which I won’t say.” Vickers added that the training was scene-specific as opposed to the previous season which involved working in the stunt gym for hours in New Zealand. Clark discovered a gift for archery in her stunt training. She explained, “Apparently I was best in the whole class, which was a big surprise, as I can’t throw a ball. So for anyone out there who thinks they’d be rubbish at archery because they’ve never scored in netball, don’t worry: it’s a different thing.”

The interview then switched the focus to the acting challenges of the season. Both Clark and Vickers said they felt more prepared with Clark citing her Shakespeare background as a useful tool. Vickers added that the second season was more enjoyable for him as he had familiarity with the world of the show. Clark revealed that she had read the books but not the appendices from a young age while Vickers admitted that he hadn’t read any of Tolkiei’s books before the filming process. Since then, he has become one of the “appendices guys” and even read The Silmarillion with the PlayStation games thrown in for good measure.
The pair express excitement for Cirán Hinds and Rory Kinnear joining the cast. Clark gave a shout-out to her friends playing the orcs and emphasized the heavy amount of prosthetics necessary for their costumes. Vickers added that the orcs had to come seven hours early just to be in costume in time. The interviewer mentioned the new Barad-dûr Lego set and asked Vickers if he bought it. He responded that his son’s too young, but Clark suggested he buy it for himself and build it between takes. The Rings of Power Season 2 premieres on August 29 on Prime Video.
