Fans of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit have always wanted to see what it was like to be a hobbit and grab a pint at the Green Dragon, and now that dream is closer to reality and much cheaper than flying to New Zealand.

Revealed for the first time back in September, it was also revealed yesterday that the first full trailer would drop today. Fans received a teaser of a quaint riverside view of the game’s art not long ago, but now, the full trailer is available for all to see in its beautiful, hobbity glory.

Tales of the Shire is an upcoming cozy game (along the same line of games as Stardew Valley and Disney Dreamlight Valley) made by Wētā Workshop, the same visual effects studio that worked on the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies.

In a beautifully rendered trailer, reminiscent of the art style of Sea of Thieves, it depicts a peaceful village life in the Shire. It seems to take place in the village of Bywater, which is where the famous Green Dragon, the same inn Merry and Pippin are fond of, is located. From what it shows, you can go beyond the village and forage for mushrooms and other things in the forests around Bywater, as well as fish, cook, and farm. There’s also a home decorating and customization component that shows what seems to be different levels of quality of furniture in the iconic hobbit holes.

Cozy games are really taking off lately, with a casual, make-your-own story and life kind of approach to games. Nerd of the Rings released a video of their visit to the game studio branch of Wētā Workshop, where the developers talked about taking a sort of softer, storybook approach to the game.

Tales of the Shire will be released later this year on all major platforms.
