With the upcoming release of the latest Star Wars series, The Acolyte, Empire Magazine teased an exclusive deep-dive into the series in its latest issue, which was released on Thursday, April 11.

The upcoming series, created and co-directed by Leslye Headland, is notable for being the first animated or live-action series set a century before the events of The Phantom Menace, well outside the current boundaries of anything brought to the screen to date. The High Republic series of novels and comics do stretch back slightly further chronologically, however.

RELATED:

The events of The Acolyte are expected to herald the end of the High Republic, the apotheosis of the Jedi Order and the Republic, and usher in the slow rise of the Sith and culminate in the destruction of the Jedi Order and final ascension of the Sith. The Acolyte will introduce a new mystery offering viewers insight into the Jedi, the Sith, and other assorted characters such as smugglers, assassins, and witches. The series will introduce a slew of new characters played by well-known actors such as Carrie-Ann Moss (The Matrix), Amandla Stenberg (The Hunger Games), Dean-Charles Chapman (Game of Thrones), and Jonas Suotamo (The Last Jedi, Solo, The Rise of Skywalker), who will once again be starring as a Wookie, albeit one with a lightsaber.

The series is set to premiere exclusively on Disney+ in June.
