Daniel Kaluuya Has Joined The Cast Of 'Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse' As The Voice Of Spider-Punk
Daniel Kaluuya may not be back as W’Kabi for this weekend’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, but he still has a Marvel role lined up. The Oscar-winning actor for Judas and the Black Messiah will be voicing Hobart “Hobie” Brown, an alternate-universe Spider-Man colloquially known as Spider-Punk in Sony Pictures Animation’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the sequel to 2018’s Academy Award-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
On the main Earth, Hobie Brown was the first Prowler, a teenager fired from his job who turned to crime. When Peter as Spider-Man foiled his attempt to rob the Daily Bugle and saw that he was just a kid, he instead convinced him to turn his life around. Brown became quite the ally afterward. The version that became Spider-Punk was homeless, and the spider bite was radioactive due to a toxic waste dump by President Norman Osborn. He leads an uprising and kills him during a riot by physically beating him with his guitar.
Kaluuya missed the Black Panther sequel due to scheduling conflicts with Nope, which was released this past summer. His other credits include Get Out, Sicario, and the 2009 Doctor Who episode “Planet of the Dead”. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is currently set for release on June 2, 2023, following delays from dates in April and October 2022 caused by the pandemic. It stars the returning Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, and Oscar Isaac. is directed by Justin K. Thompson, Joaquim Dos Santos, and Kemp Powers. There is a slew of executive producers, including Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who are also writing the film with David Callaham. Its follow-up film, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, is scheduled for March 29, 2024.
