'Avatar: The Way Of Water' Surpassed 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever' At The Box Office, And Shows No Sign Of Slowing Down
Avatar: The Way of Water was released on December 16, 2022, and even in that short amount of time, its box office performance shot through the roof worldwide. At the time of this article, the movie has hit a domestic revenue of $293,290,336, and a worldwide revenue of $955,234,966. This brings the film to a worldwide ranking of #4.
The movie performed well over the holiday weekend, bringing in $95.5 million domestically and $168.6 million worldwide by the end. This dominates the other movies currently in a theatrical run, even the newest releases. With the pace that this sequel is moving, it may still rise in the rankings before 2022 ends.

Globally, Avatar 2 knocked Black Panther: Wakanda Forever down to #6 as it passed that and the latest Minions movie. On the worldwide charts, it is creeping up closer to the #3 spot. That is currently held by Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which sits at a global revenue of $955,775,804. That would be the third new Marvel Studios production it would surpass in 2022, the fourth if you count the Spider-Man: No Way Home re-release.
This sequel follows Jake Sully from the previous movie as he lives with the Na'vi on Pandora. With a threat once again rising, he must help the Na’vi protect their home. The movie will likely stay in theaters for a few more months. A Disney+ release date has not yet been announced.
