Brie Larson Shares Intense Training Video For ‘The Marvels’

In 2019 Brie Larson starred as the titular Captain Marvel in the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe smash hit. The movie was mainly set in the 1980's and told the origin story of Carol Danvers, the talented Air Force pilot who became Captain Marvel. We saw the journey of an amnesiac Kree Starforce member, her meeting with Nick Fury before the formation of the Avengers, her subsequent transformation into Captain Marvel, as well as the role she played in the war between the Skull and the Kree. Danvers was arguably the strongest Avenger given the raw power resulting from the cosmic energy she absorbed from the Tesseract. We would agree that intense physical training was necessary to prepare her to wield such power.

Brie Larson has posted a video to her Instagram of her preparing to return to the role of Carol Danvers in The Marvels. We could see Larson doing some intense training using a flywheel box, a training system based on inertia which increases resistance the harder an individual exerts themselves. In addition, Larson was using a fairly hefty looking kettlebell to do squats. This demonstrated the intense full-body workout routine combining both strength and cardio training the Captain Marvel star put herself through. While we do not know much about the plot of The Marvels, we know Captain Marvel would get her superhero physique ready for the role of the strongest Avenger.

Captain Marvel was not the first time we learned of the existence of the character. She was teased in the post-credits scene for Avengers: Infinity War when Nick Fury contacted her via what appeared to be a galactic pager just as he was snapped out of existence. It was only a matter of time before one of Marvel’s strongest characters returned. Captain Marvel went on to explain the particular post-credits scene in more detail as we saw Danvers arrived on Earth and encountered Fury. Over the course of the movie, they went from enemies to allies, showing how much Fury would come to trust and respect her. This was why he paged her when things started to go south for the Avengers. She was essentially his secret weapon for when things got really bad. When Avengers: Endgame rolled round, we saw just how powerful Captain Marvel was when she single-handedly obliterated Thanos’ ship that was raining missiles down on the battlefield. She was able to face off with Thanos one on one, and stood her ground, which was something only Thor had been shown to do up until this point.

The much anticipated sequel The Marvels promised not only to be a follow-up to Captain Marvel, but also continue the story of the upcoming Disney+ show Ms. Marvel. This meant we would also see one of my favorite Marvel characters, Kamala Khan or Ms. Marvel. In the comics, Khan took the mantle of Ms. Marvel from Danvers, who was the first Ms. Marvel before she became Captain Marvel. Unlike Captain Marvel’s cosmic power, Ms. Marvel exhibited shapeshifting powers similar to those of Mr. Fantastic of the Fantastic 4.

In addition to Kamala Khan’s Ms. Marvel, we would also see a grown up Monica Rambeau returning fresh with the powers she received in WandaVision. Not much is known about the upcoming movie as of right now, but I think the appearance of three fairly powerful heroes meant that they would not be facing an average villain. Zawe Ashton from the comedy series Fresh Meat would be playing the part of the yet unnamed villain in The Marvels.

The Marvels is scheduled for release on November 11, 2022. Ms. Marvel is set to air on Disney+ some time in late 2021.
