If you are a fan of Star Wars: The Clone Wars then you need to check out Star Wars: Dark Disciple. The book was written by Christie Golden and originally released in 2015 but has started garnering more attention thanks to the Star Wars fandom on X and TikTok. The novel has been confirmed as canon by Brad Rau, supervising director of The Bad Batch, and is based on an eight-episode Clone Wars arc that was scrapped but would have appeared in season seven of the animated series. While this book was based on an arc originally intended for the animated series that aired on Cartoon Network, I would not recommend the books to younger fans. If you have never read a single Star Wars book then I highly recommend you start with this one!

Star Wars: Dark Disciple is easily one of the best pieces of Star Wars content ever created. The book follows Jedi Master Quinlan Vos who is sent into the underbelly of Coruscant to locate Asajj Ventress. He has been tasked with assassinating Count Dooku by the Jedi Council, and Obi-Wan Kenobi suggests that he ask Ventress for her help. He is instructed to keep his mission a secret, but once he meets Ventress his path becomes far more dangerous than he could have ever imagined. Both characters are thrust into a battle of life and death in a way that we don’t typically see in Star Wars, and they are forced to explore sides of themselves that they didn’t know existed.

This book is surprisingly complex in the way that it approaches both the light and dark sides of the force. Both sides of the force are filled with strengths and weaknesses, and it makes for a fascinating look at how both the Jedi and the Sith were doomed from the beginning because of their closed-minded approach to the force. Golden’s writing is not only phenomenal in the way that it flows, but her use of imagery is second to none. You can see what is happening in the book as you read it which makes the emotional parts that much more emotional. You can also feel her words, so when there is a sense of love, foreboding, or loss you can feel it deep in your heart.

While I would have loved to have seen more of Asajj in the final seasons of The Clone Wars I am actually really glad that they scrapped these episodes because we would have lost so much of this story if it had to be made appropriate for younger audiences. The book is filled with twists and turns that will have your jaw on the floor, and the ending will leave you breathless. There are not enough words in the human language to explain how much I loved this book. I am an avid reader, and this is easily the best book I have ever read. Once you read it, it feels like the book attaches itself to your soul, and you will never stop thinking about it! Star Wars: Dark Disciple is available on Amazon,
